Fountain Lady vs Mall Security fight

Fountain Lady may sue, Jeff Koons is suing and Twitter gets sued: Today's legal roundup

Get the legal fight on:Case 1: Fountain Lady vs. Mall Security

Last week, a video made the circuits of a woman making the all-too-common mistake of texting and walking. She just happened to be walking right in the path of a mall fountain. "I saw the water coming at me, I could see the pennies and nickels at the bottom of the fountain and then I was in it," Cathy Cruz Marrero told the Reading Eagle. Soaked and shaken, she gets out hoping that no one saw her.

Well, the security cameras in the mall did, and the guards played it over and over, much to the amusement of their friends, who recorded the whole thing, uploaded it to YouTube and introduced the world to Fountain Lady. Marrero, of course, wants the whole thing to go away, so she did what anyone would do to squash a viral video: She made the morning television rounds with a lawyer who said they would be investigating the incident and might consider suing the mall.

And the requisite news interview:

Case 2: Jeff Koons vs. Balloon Animals

Jeff Koons, the pop artist most famous for the giant, shiny sculpture of a balloon dog that has graced the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, does not like other balloon-dog sculptures. He's suing two design companies that sell balloon-dog bookends. They are not the same color as Koons's, and they are not the same shape as Koons's. The New York Times says the suit will be hard to win.

Twitter vs. someone with the same idea as Twitter

All those tweets of Kanye West and Justin Bieber could wind up giving VS Technologies a very nice settlement if a court rules in its favor. VS Technologies alleges that Twitter infringed on its patent for a "method and system for creating an interactive virtual community of famous people." TechCrunch offers this advice on their suit: "Yeah, good luck with that."

Kat Steward

Photo Finish: This Young Woman Is A HUGE Kansas Basketball Fan

That’s Kat Steward. She’s featured in Pat Forde’s latest “Forde Minutes” column on ESPN. Yes, it’s because of that tattoo, which features Kansas athletics’ rallying cry (“Rock, chalk, Jayhawk!”) in front of a flowery, KU-colored meadow in which both a basketball and KU’s Jayhawk mascot can be found, and then in back of all that features the likeness of KU’s iconic basketball arena, Allen Fieldhouse, as well as a ribbon circling Allen Fieldhouse like a halo (added later, apparently), commemorating KU’s 2008 national championship.

Kansas basketball is a storied program with a vast legion of die-hard fans (and I don’t just say that because SportsGrid/Mediaite managing editor Colby Hall is one of them). But even among such devoted fans, I’d have to say Steward has a leg (or at least, amazingly intricate back tattoo) up on most of them.

Centre monitoring every pregnant woman

PATNA: The growth of foetus in a pregnant women residing even in a remote village of Bihar or Karnataka is being recorded fortnightly by the Central government, thanks to the implementation of the health management information system (HMIS) early this year.

Giving details of this socially useful system launched for the first time in the country, PU statistics department head and organizing committee chairman of the 19th international conference of the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (FIM) Arun Kumar said here on Monday that the HMIS keeps the track of each pregnant woman in the country and monitors whether the woman is being visited by a doctor regularly and whether she is being administered daily dose of vitamins and iron pills. It also monitors whether a pregnant woman has been vaccinated properly.

The data are provided to the Central government by each state government on regular basis, he said.

Earlier, David Swanson of California University, US, in his paper on `Developing Small Area Population Estimates for Use in Health Information System', pointed out that the development of demographic data for use in health monitoring is not an easy task. The problem becomes all the more challenging when the information is needed for small areas. He further pointed out that the Hamilton-Perry Method and the Housing Unit Method together offer the possibilities of developing useful demographic detail for small areas.

G P Patil of Pennsylvania State University, US, deliberated on hotspot geoinformatics and said that this statistical tool can pinpoint the prevalence of some disease in a particular area.

Lynsie Murley News Reports About Woman

Woman wins payout from TSA after her breasts were exposed in airport patdown

A woman who sued the Transportation Security Administration for exposing her breasts during a patdown at a Texas airport has won a 'nominal' payment.

Lynsie Murley, 24, filed a lawsuit against the TSA last year for negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

She claimed that the May 2008 incident at Corpus Christi airport left her 'extremely embarrassed and humiliated'.

Ms Murley will receive the nominal sum from the government as part of a legal settlement, according to The Smoking Gun.

Her lawyer Jerry McLaughlin refused to divulge exactly how much his client is receiving but said it was a small amount.

Mr McLaughlin reportedly laughed loudly when asked if the negotiated payment was around six figures.

He said that the amount was, 'Way less than that. It wasn't a whole lot of money'.

Ms Murley 'was never interested in the money', Mr McLaughlin said, adding that she 'would not have filed a lawsuit if TSA officials had simply sent her a letter of apology'.

She claimed that she was 'singled out for extended search procedures'.

A TSA agent is alleged to have frisked Ms Murley and 'pulled Plaintiff's blouse completely down, exposing Plaintiff's breasts to everyone in the area'.

Too far: The Transport Security Administration have come under heavy criticism for their invasive security searches

The TSA are accused to have 'joked and laughed about the incident for an extended period of time'.

After Ms Murley left the security line to be 'consoled by an acquintance who had brought her to the airport', she returned to the line only to be told by a male TSA woprker that he wished he had been there when she passed through the first time.

According to Ms Murley, the officer added that 'he would just have to watch the video'.

Ms Hurley was awarded her settlement soon after she gave her deposition to government lawyers.

Mr McLaughlin said the agreement gave his client 'some justice'.

Lasso of Truth woman

Lasso, of, Truth, is, Wonder, Woman

One question in last night’s Million Dollar Money drop was about cartoon characters? Which comic book character has not been a star of a live action major motion picture in the last 10 years? There were four answers presented — bitten by a spider (Spider-man), Born on Krypton (Superman), Lasso of Truth (Wonder Woman), and Turns green when angry (The Hulk.)

The couple got it right when they placed the money on Lasso of Truth (Wonder Woman).

Blessing of Celebrity # 392

Not having to answer the obvious and embarrassing questions about your irresponsible and destructive behaviour...

“You just get really drunk all the time. Which is awesome! At least I did anyway, it's not very professional. There's a Bloody Mary at 10 a.m. and keep it going all day!

You know, it was actually very liberating and amazing to play somebody who just didn't think about consequences because I'm so responsible with my life and too worried about everybody and my kids and where's everybody going. This character is like total opposite. In a way it was kinda fun, you know? I was sad when it ended because it was nice to play someone who just had no responsibility.”
