Victoria Huggins American Idol 2011

Victoria Huggins American Idol 2011

American Idol 2011, Teens receive a boost this season as we thought they would. Some, like Kenzie Palmer and Robbie Rosen, have remarkable voices.

Victoria Huggins, on the other hand, has a Southern accent that makes Miley Cyrus refined sound. And “perky” does not even begin to describe the 16 years of Lumberton, North Carolina, she sang the Gladys Knight hit Midnight Train to Georgia, but it is pure historical reconstruction. “I’m ready for the 2011 American Idol,” she tells the judges. “This is my

chance.” And it is – but not for her voice. It is through his personality and a “Yo, yo, dawg.” In Hollywood, where she will be the cannon fodder.

I begin to understand why the group of Hollywood week was so important this year (reported 325). This group of judges is a touch sweeter than many previous teams. They are much more likely to put someone through force of personality. Simon would have shut 75% of these people.

The next singer is 16 years, a war refugee from Kosovo, whose father won the green card lottery to immigrate to the United States. So, his family knows all about the feeling of having the “golden ticket.” Now they know that twice.

The 10th season of “American Idol” began Wednesday night, but the new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez did not quite shake off as promised.

While the man was before Aerosmith fun and flirty during two days of hearings in New Jersey, J. Lo has spent much time struggling with two letters, N and O.

As promised, no member of three kinds – including the back judge Randy Jackson – pulled the card Simon Cowell.

Instead, Tyler, who has been linked to take his place, might somehow mitigate even the most biting insults, perhaps because it does not mean that disdain Cowell.

“Did you eat paint chips as a child?” he asked a candidate to belch in a loud voice, before adding: “. We have a higher level here”

Although he was shouting and with the candidates, J. Lo Sat firmly in his seat, seeming to assume his new duties seriously.

Unfortunately, while Tyler most comments on their songs (with some comments on hotness of women thrown in), Lopez seemed to have a look mainly for pop princesses to the chain, like its predecessors.

“You’re crazy – it is beautiful, she’s only 15 and it gives us some energy,” she says of Kenzie Palmer, a pretty girl from Philadelphia with a voice that did not ignite generic and Tyler Jackson.

She and Jackson later subtly slammed the way to dress perfectly attractive, clear front-runner Devyn Rush, a waitress of 20-year bluesy vocals of Pennsylvania who works in Times Square.

“Your voice is the star,” Lopez told him, “so start dressing this way … because this company is in the image as well.”

Lopez appeared to relax and stop sneaking looks at the camera so often that the competition has progressed.

Stand-outs included native Jersey Shore Rios named Tiffany who wore out her bra, Ashley Sullivan, a rabid fan of Britney Spears Victoria Huggins, a courageous 16-year-old from North Carolina and an imitator of Japanese named Michael Yoji Jackson “Pop” Asano who hated Miley Cyrus.

Ultimately, 51 people were chosen for Hollywood, including Kenzie Palmer, 15, one of the youngest candidates in the show has ever seen.

American Idol 2011 New Judges Steven Tyler Jennifer Lopez

American Idol 2011 New Judges Steven Tyler Jennifer Lopez: How Did They Do?

American Idol 2011 kicked off tonight, and viewers couldn’t wait to check out the new judges. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have replaced Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson is the only judge there from past seasons. What did you think of the new American Idol judges 2011? How did they do?

I actually thought that new American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler fit into the show quite nicely. Steven Tyler seems to have a good wit about him…even asking one contestant, “did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?” That sort of sounds like a Simon Cowell statement to me.

Jennifer Lopez was honest, while remaining sweet, even getting up to hug one poor, crying contestant.

It honestly seems like Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have always been a part of American Idol. What do you think?

Katy Perry announces North American 'California Dreams' tour on Facebook Live interview

Katy Perry announces North American 'California Dreams' tour on Facebook Live interview

Put on your favorite candy-covered frock, Katy Perry's coming to town!

Fans can finally curb their Katy Perry cravings after the singer announced her "California Dreams" world tour will hit the U.S. and Canada this summer during a Facebook Live interview Wednesday.

The pop singer, who kicked off the live video stream with a Q&A with Mark Zuckerberg's sister Randi Zuckerberg, excitedly talked about the tour, which she said will involve scent as well as sound.

"It's an edible-looking tour with meat and candy," she said. "It'll look like a smorgasbord of them."

During the interview, Perry had technicians stream in cotton candy-scented air into the Facebook offices.

"I'm gonna make the Facebook offices STINK!" the star tweeted earlier in the day.

Perry said she will be employing the artistic skills of Mark Ryden and Will Cotton, who created the portrait for her "Teenage Dream" album cover.

Perry also made other, smaller announcements throughout the interview.

For the Grammys, set to air Feb. 13, the provocative pop star plans to bring her 90-year-old grandmother as her date.

"It'll be my grammy at the Grammys," she said. For her grandmother's recent birthday, Perry gave her a bedazzled cane, and she joked with Randi about all other things bedazzled.

"A bedazzled toilet! Though I think that would hurt," the star wondered aloud.

The tour will kick off on June 7 and Perry will wind her way to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on June 19. Presale tickets start on Friday.

Judge Steven Tyler Talks Sex, Drugs On 'Howard Stern'

American Idol' Judge Steven Tyler Talks Sex, Drugs On 'Howard Stern'

This is not going to be your grandma's "American Idol." When the show that's beloved by everyone from tweens with blue hair to their indigo-coiffed nanas comes back Wednesday night with the first episode of season 10, it will have more surprises than the ones we've already told you about.

"Idol" has always been a kind of wholesome family affair that the entire clan can sit down and watch together without worrying about foul language, nudity or any other PG-13 antics. That's before new judge Steven Tyler came onboard, so don't be surprised if your sixth-grader starts asking, "Mommy, what's a Lunesta?" or "Daddy, what's a three-way?"

Tyler has done it all as the lead singer of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act Aerosmith, and he's not afraid to talk about it in its X-rated glory, even when promoting his new G-rated gig. Appearing as the surprise guest on Howard Stern's Sirius satellite radio show Tuesday (January 18), the motor-mouthed rocker made a modest attempt to play down his colorful past, but still ended up discussing the kind of sex, drugs and rock-and-roll debauchery you've never heard about from any of the past "Idol" judges.

Tyler left no stone unturned, speaking about everything from the inspiration for the song "Big 10 Inch Record" (hint: it's not about vinyl) to masturbation, his active (and colorful) sex life with his current girlfriend, his love of guns, multiple trips to rehab for drugs and Penthouse Forum-worthy backstage activities with his sweetie and an eager groupie during a recent Aerosmith tour.

"He's angry with me for what? Because I took f---ing 'Idol'? What a crock of sh--!" he responded vehemently when Stern asked if the TV gig was putting even more distance between Tyler and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry. "Wait till Wednesday," he teased. "I saw the debut ... I'm not a TV guy, I'm a rock-and-roll junkie whore. I'm not used to your stuff, [but] it blew me away," he added about the emotions he felt watching the first 10 minutes of the debut episode.

Though he complained about his bandmates sometimes kicking him when he's down (or in rehab), Tyler said he loves his Aerosmith pals dearly and said he explained to them that "Idol" was a good chance for him to slow down and get off the road for a while to rest his chronic and painful foot condition. "This is something else I could get into and see if it was a good fit," he said.

Putting aside his belief that no one can really be a star without paying their dues in a million dingy clubs (though his wording was much more colorful on Stern's show), Tyler, 62, said he realized it's a new day in the music biz, and after boiling 700 contestants down to 20, he finally gets the show. "It's something that I've never got into because I never caught the rhythm of the show," he said. "When you watch it, you kind of fall in love with this guy ... there's some people who sing their ass off."

He also explained for the first time how he got the gig, saying he was writing a song with former judge Kara DioGuardi last year for a Japanese movie, and she got him thinking about the show. Tyler said producers came to him after Aerosmith's 2010 summer tour ended and made an offer. "She [DioGuardi] was talking to [executive producer] Nigel [Lythgoe] ... and so Nigel got to management," and that got the ball rolling, though Tyler said he swiftly rejected the show's first offer with a brusque "f--- that!"

And, in another breach of past "Idol" etiquette, Tyler alluded to his payday for the gig. When Stern suggested that fellow newbie judge Jennifer Lopez was earning $12 million a year on the show, Tyler sniggered and said, "More!," then instantly realized he may have crossed a line in discussing his paycheck. When Stern countered that perhaps it was more like $18 million, Tyler declined to answer, but did admit that he's free to bail after one season if things don't work out.

But when it came to discussing their sex life, Tyler wasn't so shy, with his girlfriend admitting that he's still got plenty of stamina and never needs Viagra to get his motor running. "It gives me a headache!" he demurred of the male impotence drug, before describing his first experience on the pill a few years ago, as well as the laundry list of exotic drugs he did back in the bad old days of his addiction.

In fact, it was Tyler who asked Stern if he'd ever been with two women at the same time, telling the radio host that it was "the secret to life." But when the singer's girlfriend suggested that she and Tyler had already invited another woman into their circle of trust, the Aerosmith frontman suddenly got a bit more squeamish and tried to change the subject. "Ah, Jesus, we're on television!" he moaned about the Stern TV cameras focused on him, before again insisting that it hadn't (yet) happened, but might in the future.

But, soon enough, the story about the backstage tryst unfolded and Tyler groaned, "Wouldn't you know, it would go to here?" Finally, after nearly an hour of the most unconventional "Idol" judge interview ever, he'd had enough when she divulged the gritty details of the encounter.

"You're going too far!" he yelled. "No more! No more Joe Perry, no more the band! No more sex. We got too close. It's enough." Asked if he was being shy because of " 'Idol' and his new image," Tyler snorted, "F--- no!"

Grand slam Sam: Sizzling Stosur scores lopsided win

Grand slam Sam: Sizzling Stosur scores lopsided win

LIVE SCORES FROM THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN

MELBOURNE: Samantha Stosur made a sizzling start to her Australian Open campaign, thrashing American junior prodigy Lauren Davis for the loss of just two games.

In an awesome display, Stosur crushed Davis 6-1 6-1 in 53 minutes at Melbourne Park.
I

t was the most lopsided victory of Stosur's nine-year-grand slam career.

Australia's fifth seed belted 20 clean winners and dropped only five points on serve all match in setting up a second-round clash on Thursday with either Russian Vera Dushevina or Italian Maria Elena Camerin.

"Very pleased to come out here and play like that in my first match," Stosur said as she set her sights on breaking Australia's 33-year home major title drought.

"At the end of the day, I want to do well for myself and I want to do well for everyone else.

"It takes a lot to win a grand slam. Everything has to fall into place for two weeks.

"So it's going to be tough, but I'm going to give it my best shot."

Davis, at 17 the youngest player in the draw, had been boasting pre-match about taking Stosur down after going unbeaten in four months at junior and second-tier level.

But the world No.443 was out her league against the French Open runner-up.

Stosur raced through the opening set in 25 minutes, wrapping it up with a huge ace down the middle.

The Queenslander broke Davis for a third and fourth time to charge to a 3-0 in the second set and snuff out any hopes of a comeback from the American wildcard playoff winner.

Australia's big hope eventually finished Davis off with a powerful off-forehand winner to the delight of expectant fans at Rod Laver Arena.

American Idol fill void left by Simon Cowell

American Idol Will changes fill void left by Simon Cowell?

On the new season of “American Idol,” host Ryan Seacrest (from left) will appear with new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, along with judging veteran Randy Jackson.
When “American Idol” returns for its 10th season on Fox next Wednesday, it will have two fresh (and very famous) faces at the judges’ table.

And it will also feature, the network promises, a renewed focus on the warbling would-be stars who are supposed to be the singing smash’s reason for existence in the first place.

Ah, but something will be missing. Oh, right — the sassy guy with the flattop and tight T-shirts.

The big suspense surrounding the new “Idol” isn’t whether Steven Tyler will be introduced as Liv Tyler’s father or Jennifer Lopez will salvage her fading career. The Aerosmith frontman and Bronx-born J-Lo were picked as new judges amid a seemingly endless carnival of speculation last summer.

Instead, the real story centers on whether the show will survive the departure of Simon Cowell, the caustic lead judge who rode his merciless putdowns of auditioners to high-powered stardom.

The stakes are incredibly high for Fox. “Idol” is the No. 1 series on television and has propelled Fox to repeated victories in the crucial demographic of adults ages 18 to 49, according to the Nielsen Co. The singing contest has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for Fox and made it almost impossible for ABC and NBC to compete in midweek during the winter and spring.

CBS, the most-watched network, has fared much better but has nevertheless been held to a counterprogramming strategy, batting back the “Idol” threat with franchise crime series such as “Criminal Minds” and “NCIS,” which skew heavily toward older viewers.

And at a time when broadcasting was supposed to be slumping off into irrelevance, “Idol” proved that 30 million viewers will still crowd around a network show, provided it’s the right network show.

At least for the record, Fox executives insist there’s little cause for concern. “Idol” just needs a few tweaks and, in any event, a somewhat less big “Idol” is still huge.

“For any show in its 10th season to be holding up as well as ‘Idol’ is a testament to the show,” said Preston Beckman, Fox’s research and scheduling guru. “It’s been about 60 percent higher than the next highest-rated show, so worst-case scenario, it’ll still be the biggest show on television.”

“Idol” indeed has a long way to fall before it could be considered in trouble. It has been the No. 1 program for a record six straight years — longer than any show, scripted or otherwise, including “All in the Family,” “The Cosby Show” and “I Love Lucy.”

This season, the network is hoping “Idol” can push it to the top of the heap on Thursdays, a night where Fox has been weak. Executives made the decision to move the results show there (after following a Tuesday-Wednesday schedule in years past) after CBS pulled “Survivor” off the night.

“We could go into next season as the No. 1 network on Thursday night,” Beckman said.

But there is a sense that Fox is on the defensive, that the network must stop more air from escaping the “Idol” balloon. Last May’s finale drew 24.2 million total viewers — still an enormous figure, but “Idol’s” worst season closer since its first back in 2002. Critics griped about the perceived blandness of the contestants, including runner-up Crystal Bowersox and the self-effacing winner, Lee DeWyze.

Even the show’s once formidable infrastructure seemed out of whack. After Kara DioGuardi was added in 2009, trying to accommodate reactions from a quartet of judges threw off the pacing and often made the program run long. And Ellen DeGeneres, who was hired last year to replace Paula Abdul at the judge’s table, proved an awkward fit.

Cowell exited after last season to prepare his own talent contest, “The X Factor,” for a Fox run later this year, and DioGuari and DeGeneres did not return, leaving Randy Jackson as the only remaining original judge.

“In the past couple years, it was like so much oxygen seemed to be consumed by everything going on the judges’ panel that the poor kids hardly had a chance to introduce themselves,” said Richard Rushfield, author of the forthcoming book “ ‘American Idol’: The Untold Story.”

Perhaps as a result, the last few crops of “Idol” singers haven’t broken through to mainstream success the way earlier performers did, such as Season 1’s Kelly Clarkson, Season 4’s Carrie Underwood and Season 5’s Chris Daughtry (who did not win or make the finals of the contest).

“The biggest thing that ‘Idol’ needs to do this year,” Rushfield said, “is produce a major recording star. They haven’t done that in a lot of years, and it’s sort of the premise of the show.”

Whether Tyler, J-Lo & Co. are up to the task remains to be seen. Early promos have given little indication of their style

“(Cowell) was the master of brutal honesty, but he really knew the business,” industry analyst Shari Anne Brill said. “If the replacements and the new formatting of the show (don’t) get people from the beginning, it’s going to hurt.”

NEXT WEEK
“American Idol” returns with a two-hour season premiere starting at 7 next Wednesday on Fox. The results show follows on Thursdays.

American Renaissance Hot News

FBI NOTES POSSIBLE AMREN CONNECTION TO TUSCON SHOOTING; ONE PEOPLE'S PROJECT OFFICIALLY ENDORSES OPPOSITION TO AMREN CONFERENCE

At around 8:15 AM on Jan. 9, 2011 on the Fox News program Fox and Friends, there was an aside mention of a connection between Jared Lee Loughner, the shooter in Tuscon that killed six people including a federal judge and critically injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, and the white supremacist publication American Renaissance who will be sponsoring their 9th biannual conference in Charlotte, NC on February 4-6, 2011. American Renaissance conferences have been held since 1994 and was to be held in the Washington, DC area last February, but the outrage over the conferences have been building up over the past four years to the point that four hotels declined to play host to them prompting organizers to cancel the event. The Charlotte conference is a makeup date, well outside the Washington, DC area. This is not to say that the outrage is not going to follow them there, however. One People's Project is officially endorsing the effort to oppose the American Renaissance Conference and urges others to join us in this effort. There will be talk of freedom of speech of course, those freedoms articulated by Rep. Giffords last week as she read the First Ammendment on the House floor. However we believe that this not mean we discount the things that are said, and the consequences that come things said. It is now time that we also excersise our FIrst Amendment rights and repudiate the hatred and bigotry that comes from those who publish, contribute and support American Renaissance, and especially those who will attend this conference. The following comes from Fox News' Greta Van Sustren, who has posted the memo on her blog where they mention the AmRen connection. We bolded that passage."

If We Do Nothing

In March, the Census Bureau released its periodic projection of the ethnic makeup of the United States during the next few decades. It reported cheerfully that if current immigration and birth rates hold steady, by the year 2050 the percentage of Hispanics will have increased from 10 to 25 percent, that of Asians from three to eight percent, and that of blacks from 12 to 14 percent. All these increases will come at the expense of whites, who are projected to fall from 74 percent of the population to about 50 percent.
Within 54 years, therefore, whites will be on the brink of becoming just one more racial minority. And because whites are having so few children, they will be an old minority. Within just 34 years — by 2030 — they will already account for less than half the population under age 18, but will be three quarters of the population over 65. Some of the people reading these words will be alive when these things come to pass.
As usual, the Census Bureau’s projections stirred little interest. The New York Times did note that the projected changes would represent “a profound demographic shift” and that the future mix of old whites and young blacks and Hispanics might give the debate about Social Security “a racial and ethnic tinge.” This seemed to be the most disturbing thing the Times could think of.
Why is there almost complete silence about a population shift that, if it takes place, will transform much of the country beyond recognition? Why is there no debate about what this would mean in terms of education, politics, democracy, the jury system, national unity, racial friction, crime, foreign policy, labor productivity, or virtually any other national indicator?
The demographic future of the United States is perhaps the most important question we face, yet it receives no attention. Most whites simply refuse to think about what is happening to their country or about the third-world future they are ensuring for their children and grandchildren. Those who do think about demographic change have been browbeaten into believing that it is inevitable and that resistance would, somehow, be immoral.
Why is there almost complete silence about a population shift that, if it takes place, will transform much of the country beyond recognition?
What makes the silence so unaccountable is that there is very little mystery about the nature of the changes we can anticipate. Miami and Detroit and Monterey Park, California are good examples of what happens when a city becomes Hispanic, black, or Asian. The details of the transformation are interesting, but it is sufficient to note the obvious: Once the concentration of non-whites reaches a certain level, whites cannot or will not live among them. Except in a few gilded enclaves, there are virtually no whites left in Miami or Detroit or Monterey Park. “White flight” is a universal fact of American life. Liberals may deplore it, but no one can deny it.
In the 1960s and 1970s, whites were generally fleeing blacks, but the great black migrations have largely come to an end, and whites have reestablished distance between the two races. In recent decades, it is massive, non-white immigration that most often drives whites from their neighborhoods, and continuing immigration only hardens the alien character of these places. No one believes that the arrival of yet more Haitians, Guatemalans, Mexicans, Jamaicans, or Vietnamese will somehow restore the former character of South Central Los Angeles or Miami and induce whites to move back.
The process works the other way. As their numbers increase, non-whites continue to expand into adjacent areas. Whites, many of whom fled their homes in the face of the first incursion, move away once again.
This, then, will be one of the certain effects of demographic change: More and more parts of the United States will become, for whites, essentially uninhabitable. It will be physically possible for whites to live with the Mexicans of Brownsville, Texas or the blacks of Camden, New Jersey but such places will be almost as alien and as uninviting as Oaxaca or Mombassa. They will actually be more uninviting. The people of Oaxaca and Mombassa like and admire white Americans, whereas those of Brownsville and Camden have a strong and sometimes violent dislike for whites.
There is much irony in the course on which our nation has been set. Most white Americans can think of any number of communities or neighborhoods in which they might want to live. Not one is likely to have a non-white majority. Likewise, most whites cannot name a single non-white community in which they could bear to live. Furthermore, if one were to ask whites what countries they might move to if given a choice, almost all will mention a European country, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. All are white. Our country has therefore embarked on a course that will make ever larger parts of it inhospitable, even off-limits, to whites. Eventually the country as a whole could become one in which whites do not wish to live.
At some level, everyone in America understands this. Not even the most deluded white liberals live in Harlem or Watts or South Central Los Angeles, or in any of a thousand other neighborhoods that have been transformed by non-whites. Despite their pronouncements about the vital importance and desirability of integration, virtually no white is willing to take the most obvious step towards making it happen: buy a house in a black neighborhood.
Destroying the Infrastructure
Where it matters most — where they make their homes and rear their children — even the most liberal whites suddenly demonstrate a grasp of reality at odds with what they claim to believe and stand for. Even they have noticed that although the details of non-white dis-possession differ according to the part of the country and the people who arrive, something essential is always lost when whites move away.
Blacks frighten even the most ardent integrationists. East Coast blacks, in particular, have the disconcerting habit of physically destroying the cities they move into. Detroit, Newark, the South Bronx, Camden, North Philadelphia, and the South Side of Chicago now have huge expanses of vacant lots and derelict buildings.
Detroit can no longer afford to serve some of its most blighted, sparsely inhabited neighborhoods. It is considering moving out the few remaining people and decommissioning whole sections of itself — shutting off utilities, stopping mail delivery, pulling out bus lines, ending police and fire service, and letting nature take over. There are similarly stark proposals for parts of down-town Detroit, where empty skyscrapers tower over deserted streets. Some people want to turn the area into a theme park for urban architecture — like the ghost towns in the West.
Blacks have destroyed cities in several ways. One is arson. Many East Coast neighborhoods never completely rebuilt after the race riots of the 1960s. Today, black youngsters in Detroit, Newark, and elsewhere celebrate Halloween eve — which they call Devil’s Night — by burning down as many houses as they can. Other buildings, often charming turn-of-the-century townhouses, become uninhabitable because no one bothers to maintain them. Others are simply abandoned as the decent, responsible blacks flee crime and degeneracy. The result is the blasted, vacant look of so many Eastern black ghettos. Entire cities have slowly shifted away from the parts that blacks have occupied, as whites build homes and businesses away from the expanding blight. In what were once the centers of important cities, whole chapters of urban history have been wiped away. Not a trace remains of generations of industrious whites who worked hard, reared children, and hoped for a better future.
Hispanics do not ordinarily tear cities down, though the 1992 Los Angeles riots showed that they can sometimes burn and loot their own neighborhoods just as blacks sometimes do. Likewise, the Puerto Rican sections in New York’s outer borough can be as menacing as any inhabited by blacks.
Hispanics have a different effect. They bring crime and lower the quality of public schools — reasons enough for whites to move out — but they also bring an alienness blacks do not. Many are willing to live ten to a room, turn garages into bedrooms, park cars in the front yard, keep chickens, and practice a gaudy, third-world version of Catholicism. But the greatest sign of alienness is Spanish. The airwaves, magazine racks, storefronts, and the very air itself ring with a language most whites do not understand. The occasional passing car marked “Police” rather than “Policia” is a reminder that this is still, theoretically, the United States.
In 1991, the president of a black homeowners association in South Central Los Angeles explained her opposition to a wave of Mexicans moving into a formerly black area: “It’s a different culture, a different breed of people. They don’t have the same values. You can’t get together with them. It’s like mixing oil and water.” The now-forgotten and long-departed white residents may well have said the same things about blacks.
When Asians arrive in large numbers, their effect is more ambiguous. Some North Asian groups commit fewer crimes than whites, make more money, and do better in school. Others, like the Hmong and the Cambodians, have fantastically high rates of poverty and welfare dependency. However, it does not matter whether Japanese or Chinese build societies that are, in some respects, objectively superior to those of Europeans. It matters only that they are different.
When large numbers of North Asian immigrants moved into Monterey Park, the long-term white residents did not leave because the newcomers rioted, opened crack houses, covered walls with graffiti, or were rapists and robbers. They moved out because Monterey Park, in countless ways, ceased to be the town in which they had grown up or the town to which they had moved.
The merchandise in the stores and the faces behind the counters changed. So many signs appeared in strange languages that the fire department insisted that at least street numbers be legible to English-speakers. Even city council meetings began to include exchanges in languages other than English. The new-comers reworked zoning laws to permit businesses in what had been residential neighborhoods. Asians bought the little bungalows whites had lived in, bulldozed them, cut down all the trees, and built huge new houses nearly out to the property line.
All these changes and many others — some of them vastly more troubling than issues that are routinely put to the voters to decide — took place without the permission or consent of the whites who had lived there for years. One unhappy resident paid for a billboard that said, “Would the last American to leave Monterey Park please take down the flag.”
Once again, the significance of racial change does not lie in the particulars. It lies in the fact of unwelcome, uncalled for, irreversible change. People have every right to expect their children and their children’s children to be able to grow up and walk in the ways of their ancestors. They have a powerful, natural desire that their grandchildren be like them — that they speak the same language, sing the same songs, tell the same stories, pray to the same God, take pride in the same past, hope the same hopes, love the same nation, and honor the same traditions. The crucial elements of peoplehood cannot be preserved in the face of a flood of aliens, especially when the central institutions of the nation itself preach fashionable falsehoods about the equivalence of all races, cultures, and peoples.
Most people who grew up in America want to grow old in America, not in some bustling outpost of Mexico or Southeast Asia. They should not have to move to Montana or Idaho in order to grow old with people like themselves. Eventually, of course, if the foreign outposts continue to expand, there will be no refuge in Montana and Idaho either. This, then, is the effect of racial change at the local level: Whites become refugees in their own land.
What will happen at the national level? We cannot be sure but we can guess. Many non-whites now seem genuinely to believe that equal treatment requires preferences for themselves. It may yet be possible to abolish racial preferences while whites are still a majority, but what will prevent their reappearance when whites become a minority?
Whites will still have higher incomes than blacks and Hispanics, but this will be seen only as proof of white wickedness and exploitation. Is it so outlandish to imagine outright confiscation of property owned by whites? supplemental taxes for whites? sumptuary laws? exclusion from certain professions? Asians will also be a small but successful racial minority, and their wealth, too, is likely to attract unwelcome government attention.
It does not matter whether Japanese or Chinese build societies that are, in some respects, objectively superior to those of Europeans.
What sort of foreign policy would a non-white America have? What would it do — or not do — with nuclear weapons? What sort of public health standards would it maintain? How would a third-world America treat its national parks, its forests, its rivers? So far, only whites have shown much interest in the environment.
In the long term, there is some doubt that a non-white America could even maintain a functioning democracy or any semblance of the rule of law. The record of non-white nations suggests not. Even if our forms of government survive, what fanciful, anti-white readings will a black and Hispanic Supreme Court find in the Constitution? What subjects or opinions will be found to lie outside the protection of the First Amendment?
Not an Ounce of Sympathy
But these will be future concerns. To return to the present, in the United States today, there is not an ounce of public sympathy for whites who escape when the neighborhood turns black or Mexican. The theory is that only ignorant bigots run away from non-whites, but the fact is that people with money never even have to face the problem. As a very clever man once put it, the purpose of a college education is to give people the right attitudes about minorities and the means to live as far away from them as possible.
And, indeed, college-educated, right-thinking people have come up with a whole set of mental exercises for the working class unfortunates who do not have the money to send their children to private school. The first exercise is to try as hard as possible to believe that aliens and strangers are bearers of a special gift called diversity. We are not being displaced; we are being enriched and strengthened.
Of course, the idea that racial diversity is a strength is so obviously stupid that only very intelligent people could have thought it up. There is not one multi-racial anything in America that doesn’t suffer from racial friction. Our country has established a gigantic system of laws, diversity commissions, racial watchdog groups, EEO officers, and outreach committees as part of a huge, clanking machine to regulate and try to control racial diversity — this dangerous, volatile thing that is supposed to be such a source of strength. People are so exhausted by this source of strength that they run from it the first chance they get. Families, churches, clubs, and private parties — which are not yet regulated by the government — tend to be racially homogeneous.
Nothing could be more obvious: Diversity of race or tribe or language or religion are the main reasons people kill each other on a large scale. Diversity — within the same territory — is strife, not strength.
Another comical idea is that a “diverse” workforce is somehow a great advantage for business or world trade. This is one of those giant, untested notions that otherwise skeptical people swallow without a gurgle. Ninety-nine percent of the things we buy have nothing to do with “diversity.” No one cares whether his computer was assembled by a Chinaman or a Dane or whether his bread was baked by a robot or a chimpanzee.
If diversity is a never-ending celebration, it should be Christmas all year “round for the Indians.
It does not take an Irishman to sell things to the Irish. The world’s most successful trading nations today are Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and even China, none of which has even heard of “diversity” or “tolerance.” American companies are full of blather about multi-racial workforces that “look like America” — and are constantly being whipped in their own markets by workforces that look like Yokohama.
At the same time, people seem to be too dazed by this incomprehensible diversity argument to notice that it seems to be only whites who suffer from the paralysis of homogeneity and for whom diversity is going to be such a tonic. No one is urging Howard University, which is overwhelmingly black, to recruit Hispanics or Asians so its students can benefit from racial diversity. No one is suggesting that Mexico should start an immigration program to reduce Hispanics to a minority in a few decades. But if racial diversity is such a great thing for the United States, why not for Mexico, too? Why not for Howard and for all the other “historically black” universities?
If white Americans were pouring across the border into Mexico demanding that their children be educated in English, insisting on welfare, demonstrating for ballot papers in English rather than Spanish, demanding voting rights for aliens, celebrating July 4th rather than Cinco de Mayo, could anyone trick the Mexicans into thinking this was joyous diversity? No. The Mexicans would recognize an invasion when they saw one. They would open fire.
There used to be much talk about “ugly Americans,” who traveled over-seas expecting to find hamburgers and English-speakers, and who ignorantly deprecated the quaint customs of the natives. We were supposed to be deeply ashamed of them — and they were only tourists! “Ugly Mexicans” and “ugly Haitians” come here to live permanently, but we are supposed to be endlessly sensitive to their peculiarities, and revel in the diversity of toadying to their ethnic demands.
“Racial diversity,” therefore, is strictly a one-way street. Only whites are ever expected to practice it or benefit from it. The ultimate insult is to expect whites to celebrate diversity. This is nothing less than asking them to celebrate their own capitulation, their dwindling numbers and declining influence. The astonishing thing is that so many whites actually do go through the motions of rejoicing in their decline.
Just Deserts
Of course, a few whites refuse to believe that dispossession is a fine thing. For these stubborn cases, there is a completely different argument to justify demographic shift: Whites took America away from the Indians, so it is now someone else’s turn. This argument is made by the same people who chant the mantra of diversity, but it implicitly concedes that diversity is a fraud.
Diversity advocates never suggest that what happened to the Indians was a good thing. But have Indians not benefited more than any other people in history from the joys of precisely the kind of diversity whites are, today, supposed to welcome? If diversity is to be celebrated, it should be Christmas all year “round for the Indians. Of course, no one tries to make this point. The you-took-itaway-from-the-Indians argument recognizes that the European conquest of the continent was a catastrophe for Indians and that what is happening now is a catastrophe for whites. It is a catastrophe whites are supposed to accept cheerfully because they took America from its rightful owners.
But this, too, is a completely one-sided argument. The Cherokee, for example, took away the land of an earlier group called the Mound Builders. Why are they known as the Mound Builders? Because the Cherokee exterminated them and no one even knows their name. All that is left of them are their strange earthworks.
If whites are supposed to stand aside while every third-world tribe marches into the United States because whites took the country from Indians, then the Cherokee should have stood aside for the Europeans — because they took the place away from the Mound Builders. Needless to say, current orthodoxy holds that for Indians it makes no difference how many people they killed to get the land or how recently; it was theirs to defend with every means at their disposal. Whites, on the other hand, have an unending debt not just to the descendants of the peoples they refrained from exterminating but to every other non-white people on the face of the earth. Just like fairy tales about the joys of diversity, the land-title argument is used exclusively to criticize and demoralize whites.
Successful Societies
What is it, though, that gives rise to movements of peoples and debates about who has rights to the land? It is the fact that whites build successful societies non-whites want to move into. Generous Nicaraguans and Haitians do not come to America eager to share the gift of “diversity” with poor, benighted white people who are about to expire from a galloping case of homogeneity. They come because their societies don’t work and they know life will be better here.
The same process is at work in Europe, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Whites establish the most desirable societies in the history of man. Desperate people from failed, non-white societies are willing to risk nearly everything — sometimes even their lives — for a chance to live in these societies.
If Europeans had turned North American into a giant pesthole no one would want to come. No one would then have to think up reasons why everyone had the right to come, or why whites actually benefit from being outnumbered and pushed aside by people unlike themselves.
The same is true on a smaller scale. Rarely is it ever said, but in the United States virtually every desirable place to live, work, or go to school is desirable because whites made it that way. Non-whites naturally want access to these places even if they did not — and could not — create them. This is why it is always non-whites who are pushing their ways into white institutions — never the other way around — and why all the overblown dramas of “exclusion,” “tolerance,” “justice,” and “racism” are played out on white territory and put whites on the defensive.
Whites are not, of course, clamoring to get into Howard University, live in Harlem, or to move to Guatemala. But if there were something rare and desirable in those places, the non-whites who made them desirable would fight like demons to keep others out.
The sad truth is that, generally speaking, once non-whites have gotten what they want, and have arrived in large numbers in what were previously white institutions or neighborhoods, those institutions and neighborhoods slowly lose the qualities that attracted non-whites in the first place. Whites leave, and the spoor of European man begins to fade. For the most part, third-world immigrants eventually recreate in the United States the societies they left behind — with all the shortcomings that prompted them to leave home in the first place.
The mystery in all this is not why non-whites want the benefits of white society, but why whites are so willing to hand over to strangers the land of their ancestors — why they appear to be so willing to permit aliens to occupy and transform their nation. Just like every other argument about race in America today, white passivity is based on yet another double standard: Non-whites have powerful and legitimate group interests but whites do not.
Before he was assassinated, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin explained that what mattered most to him as an Israeli was that his country remain at least 80 percent Jewish. No one suggested that Mr. Rabin was a bigot or hatemonger — and of course he was not. He was merely stating the obvious: That if Israel ceased to be predominantly Jewish it would change in irreversible ways that would be intolerable to Jews.
Virtually every desirable place to live, work, or go to school is desirable because whites made it that way.
Mexicans, Japanese, Algerians, Senegalese — all non-whites understand that demographic transformation is a national calamity. It is so obvious it need not even be stated. For whites it is just as much a national calamity, and the morality and reasoning of a white who wants America to stay at least 80 percent white are exactly the same as those of Yitzhak Rabin.
The forms of civility, the folkways, the demeanor and the texture of life that whites take for granted cannot survive the embrace of large numbers of aliens. The things whites love most about culture and human society have not survived in Detroit and Miami. It is not considered “nice” to say so; it prompts shouts of “racism” to say so. But it is because the things they love have not survived that whites have moved away from Detroit and Miami. Individually, whites react in an entirely natural way to racial change. American Renaissance is unusual only in making explicit what virtually all whites feel but never say.
The crisis that whites face today is that for fear of being called “racists,” for fear of being thought not nice, they seem prepared to let their country change in ways that they know will not be an improvement. How can it be good for America — or good for whites — for it to become increasingly like those very parts of the country in which they refuse to live?
Whites are so fearful of the charge of “racism” that they are unwilling even to discuss what they might do to avoid leaving a third-world nation to their grandchildren. Whites are therefore preparing to pass on to future generations a nation in which they might well be unwilling to live.
The colonists did not fight for independence from Britain in order for our generation to turn this country over to Mexicans and Haitians. The Founders did not frame the Constitution to celebrate diversity. Americans did not spill their blood at Gettysburg or in Europe or the Pacific for multiculturalism. And yet, the rightful heirs to what could have been a shining beacon of Western Civilization are giving up their country without a struggle — for fear that to do otherwise would be “racist.”
What we are witnessing is one of the great tragedies in human history. Powerful forces are in motion that, if left unchecked, will slowly push aside European man and European civilization and then dance a victory jig on their collective grave. If we do nothing, the nation we leave to our children and grandchildren will be a desolated, third-world failure, in which whites will be a despised minority. Western Civilization will be a faint echo, vilified if it is even audible. There is no other tragedy that is at once so great, so unnatural, and so unnecessary. AR

American Idol Judge Randy Jackson

American Idol Judge Randy Jackson Predicts Female Winner

Like late, lamented couple Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift, the new judges on "American Idol" are being forced to develop their relationship in public and in front of the cameras.

But unlike that blink-and-you-missed-it Hollywood romance, the "Idol" judges think they've figured out the secret to a lasting relationship and seem confident that their unique rapport will help steady the ship as they head into season 10 on the heels of the biggest shakeups in the show's history.

In a sit-down with Entertainment Weekly for the cover of the magazine's new issue, sole returning judge Randy Jackson, newbies Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler and host Ryan Seacrest dished on life after Simon Cowell and reacted to the criticism they've already weathered.

The roundtable "Idol" cover comes the same week as news that season-nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox surpassed the sales totals to date for winner Lee DeWyze, whose major-label debut has already nearly slipped out of the top 200 after selling just over 102,000 copies, making it by far the weakest debut by a winner in "Idol" history.

Lopez rejected the notion that the show — which saw a 9 percent ratings dip last year and increased competition from "Dancing With the Stars" — has lost some of its luster, considering few of the champs since season five have attained the superstar status of early winners Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson and finalist Chris Daughtry.

"I don't know that that is such a fair statement," Lopez said. "You named three [superstars] in nine years — that's pretty amazing. That's 33 percent. We all know that in this business, a 1 percent chance is huge, so I think this show is doing pretty well in that arena."

As for what the judges are looking for this year, she said, "We're looking for a recording artist, a pop star, someone who's a real artist. You can tell that when they walk in, the ones that have that special thing."

The article portrays the new judging panel as being nicer and more optimistic with even the worst auditioners and quickly developing an easy rapport with each other. Both Lopez and Tyler said they want to bring their combined decades of experience in the music biz to bear on the show. "I want to show who I am as a person, as an artist, what I love about music, what I love about other artists, and have all that come out when judging," Lopez said. "You get to share all of the experience that you have with these kids who are just starting out."

Tyler added that after all the ups and downs he's gone through with his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Aerosmith, he wants to show off how proud he was to be a part of something and pass it along. "This is the perfect way to pass the torch."

The iconic frontman also answered to the criticism he's gotten from both his pal Kid Rock and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who questioned the logic of his decision to join the cast of the reality singing competition. "I just went with my heart," Tyler said of the choice Rock called the "stupidest" one Tyler's ever made. "Kid Rock — he has an album coming out [Born Free, released in November]. He's a good friend of mine. I went to a picnic with him, and he taught me how to fry a turkey. I only hope that he's not frying his own turkey [with that comment]. It's his opinion."

He also deflected Perry's jibes, joking that Joe wishes he could have landed the gig. "All I'm doing here is being a musician and reflecting what my career has been," Tyler responded.

It was genial host Ryan Seacrest who did not hold his fire, however. After years of constant taunting and tense on-air put-downs at the hands of Cowell on the show, Seacrest said he's not worried about developing that same kind of unique spark with his new co-workers. "I think the reason that Simon and I had that dynamic is that he was just so jealous of me," Seacrest said, with no indication from the EW writer that he was being sarcastic. "From day one, he was envious of my career at such a young age. So I tried to make it as fun as possible and as lighthearted as possible ... but with all of us, we have very good senses of humor; we don't take ourselves too seriously. We like to wind each other up."

And while Lopez and Tyler were a bit coy about whether they would be performing on the show, Randy was not shy about making a bold prediction about this year's winner. "I think a girl's going to win the show," he said, echoing comments he's made over the past few seasons, the last three of which have been topped by male winners and runners-up.

With the age limit dropped to 15 this year, Lopez also had a bold prediction. "You may have the youngest winner ever," she said.

Vitriol Hot News

American vitriol explodes in Arizona

When I read about the shootings at the Arizona Safeway this morning, which killed 6 and critically wounded US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, 40, not only was I saddened and sickened by this latest violence in our gun culture, but I hearkened back to the 1960s when one after another of our great leaders were assassinated for their beliefs - Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, JFK and RFK.

What terrible times those were.

On the Internet, I carefully followed the condition of "Gabby" Giffords. This is something we weren't able to do in the 60s. All we could do was stand by our TV or radio.

False reports came in, even several announcements of Giffords' death, but never by the NY Times who waited until all the facts came in before reporting their quite comprehensive story. Altho listed in "very critical" condition, surgeons are optimistic about a good recovery.

I goggled the name of the shooter - Jared someone, age 22 - who had made a YouTube video. The video was in words, not animation, and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever. The guy was in a world of his own, clearly mentally ill, with a strong flavor of paranoia.

I only went on it for a second, leaving the analysis to other people. His MySpace page had already been removed but noted by some reporters.

Sen. John McCain made an emotional statement condemning the shooter which, to me, is embarrassingly ill-advised, but, then, that is the senator:

“I am horrified by the violent attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and many other innocent people by a wicked person who has no sense of justice or compassion...Whoever did this, whatever their reason, they are a disgrace to Arizona, this country and the human race, and they deserve and will receive the contempt of all decent people and the strongest punishment of the law.”

A more rational statement was made by the local sheriff who took the liberty to do a little philosophizing:

“The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, I think Arizona has become sort of the capital, we have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry. There’s reason to believe that this individual might have a mental issue, and I think that people who are unbalanced might be especially susceptible to vitriol.”

What is America to do? We have no true leaders in America. No Churchills or Roosevelts or Lincolns when we most need them. Obama is an abomination though he did give a thoughtful statement about the shooting.

Let us practice kindness toward everyone. Are we not all brothers and sisters no matter what the color of our skin or the homelands we hail from? Fear and suspicion must bend as we educate ourselves that all men are created equal. If not in America, then where?

Inflaming Vitriol?

Why is Keith Olbermann anchoring MSNBC coverage of the Giffords shooting? He's not a newsman, he's a biased commentator. Could it be they suddenly realized a huge opportunity to ride a "right wing nut" meme for all it's worth? Head of the Southern Poverty Law Center describing shooter's right wing beliefs; Olbermann posting Sarah Palin's target map. Guess he missed the left wing version of that map.

By any objective measure the 'shooter' is flat nuts, pure loony tunes. Such folks are not serious ideologues or partisans, they are nuts. He sounds a lot like the flake who flew into the IRS building in Austin, a confused person who's probably an atheist, something not at all akin to Palin.

As I type this, Olbermann has Eugene Robinson on the air to focus the vitriol where they think it belongs--the right wing. Oh they're being coy about it--Robinson mentioned that the left held the domestic terrorist mantle during the past, even mentioning washed up terrorist Bill Ayers, but moved on to say it's now almost exclusively on the right. This despite absolutely no evidence of increasing violence from the right; actually the evidence shows that the most violent protesters of our day are socialist anarchists.

They're using the Pima County Sheriff's idiotic speculation during his news conference regards TV and radio personalities inflaming the loonies (apparently no speculation is allowed about the shooter but the Sheriff can speculate wildly about who motivated him) to move their political points. Olbermann is right now giving us a "special comment" about how everyone needs to shut the hell up, and that means Sarah Palin, who he says is responsible. Meanwhile Fox has been running basic news coverage with Shep Smith and Bret Baier and their other news team members and trying to paint a fair picture of the suspect.

Mad as hell, Sheriff Dupnik? You bet. As a person leaning right I'm mad that a nut took out his frustrations on a decent and honorable congresswoman and killed others in the process, including a little girl who in attendance to see the political process because she was serving in student council. Mad that said nut is still alive. Mad that said nut is apparently exercising his constitutional rights, using the same constitution he evidently derided in his online activity.

I'm also mad that the very thing that he so passionately interjected--stoking the vitriol--is being practiced at this very minute by opportunistic left wing ideologues on TV who are trying to frame this event as an image of the modern right wing to score cheap political points.

This is NOT to say that we shouldn't all take a step back and think before we post or speak and understand the meaning and impact of our words. We should. We live in turbulent times. I'm troubled about what seems to be a crumbling of our society and a loss of basic feelings for our fellow man; the crushing debt; illegal immigration leading to a breakdown in the rule of law; wars that don't seem winable and corrupt and mindless politicians forcing their will on the public.

But Olbermann's outrageous and shameless vitriolic attempt to blame this on Palin, or Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly--before all the facts are known--and even if he threw himself in the pot as well with a mock apology, is just as dangerous as anything the sheriff was talking about. MSNBC should be ashamed of itself and it's so-called news department.

MORE 1/8/11

Speaking of using the word "target". And that's not a condemnation of Kos, either. It's a condemnation of Olbermann and anyone else trying to make hay with maps and words in an effort to score points off murder.

U.S. Army All-American Bowl Open Comment Thread. Gluttons For Punishment Welcome.

I've been told that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly yet expecting a different result. As you'll recall, Wednesday I thought it would be a great idea to create an open comment thread for the Under Armour All-American Game. Why not? There were a couple or three guys who were considering the 'Dawgs, we'd get a chance to see some of the guys who'll be taking the field for other squads and later be able to recall seeing them play way back when. What could possibly go wrong?
To your credit you folks handled the relatively mild recruiting snafu with trademark aplomb, while the folks over on some other sites (like that one, what's it called, oh yeah "The Vawg Dent") were in full-on, Chinese paratroopers landing on St. Simons Island meltdown. Good on you.
So, blogging masochist that I am, I am setting up yet another open comment thread for this afternoon's U.S. Army All-American Game. The Army game is the Rose Bowl to Under Armour's Roady's Humanitarian Bowl, balancing the creep factor of repeated hat-picking with the fact that it is after all sponsored by the U.S. Army, members of which will be involved throughout the game.
For Bulldog fans the game actually has some potential. While these things are always subject to change, I understand that two Bulldog commits for the class of 2011 will be starting on defense in the game: East Hall defensive end Sterling Bailey will start for the East defense just ahead of Thomas County Central standout and Bulldog target Ray Drew. Bulldog commit and Griffin Bear Corey Moore will start at safety next to versatile Grady athlete Damian Swann. Swann is expected to announce his decision between Alabama and Georgia, with a majority of guys who get paid to talk about college football recruiting on the internet opining that he will select Georgia. Which of course means that he will select Delaware A&M, which will then join the SEC, hire Kirby Smart and David Greene as co-head coaches, and beat us 5 years in a row with each bludgeoning worse than the one before. Ooops. Took a brief turn to negative town there. Mea culpa.
Future Bulldog Zach Debell will be playing offensive tackle in the game. Georgia is also recruiting Asheville, N.C. defensive lineman and former Florida commit Jeoffrey Pagan, who was selected for the game but will not play due to a knee injury suffered in November. A couple of other Georgians who look to be heading out of state, Notre Dame commit and Monroe Area star Stephon Tuitt and Eagles Landing Christian DB/Cal commit Avery Walls, will also suit up.
Of course there are players to be aware of in this game with no connection to Georgia football. Demetrius Hart is a shifty tailback out of Orlando who originally committed to Michigan but now appears headed to Alabama. Darius Dawgberry and I have a running argument about the perfect height for tailbacks. DD wants a 6'1, 6'2 "one cut and go" tailback in the Herschel Walker/Lars Tate/Tim Worley mode. Personally, I prefer guys with a low center of gravity like the 5'8 Hart.
Aaron Murray's successor at QB for Plant High, Phillip Ely will also be on the East squad, and is on his way to Alabama as well. I think Murray was a much more impressive player coming out of high school, but Ely has the tools to be a really good one for the Tide. He'll be joined in the game by Plant teammate and former Georgia target James Wilder, Jr., who's headed to Florida State. The 6'2, 220 pound Wilder is listed as a running back and will likely play that position in the game, but his future is on defense at the collegiate level. You can't miss him, Wilder's the kid who looks like he should be playing for the Atlanta Falcons right now. The guy's individual abdominal muscles have their little six packs.
The East roster also includes West Palm Beach (Dwyer) tight end Nick O'Leary. O'Leary's parents are Georgia grads and the Bulldogs were recruiting the young man heavily until apparently deciding to concentrate their efforts on Valdosta product Jay Rome. O'Leary is similar in size to Aron White coming out of high school, though he doesn't look quite as rangy to me. While I've never met the young man I'm betting he is a fierce competitor due to the influence of his maternal grandfather, from whom he received his given name: some crusty old codger named Jack Nicklaus.
Georgia also pursued Absecon, New Jersey linebacker Tony Sareo, who is currently committed to Stanford. I rarely say this about an out-of-state prospect, but I hate that we missed on this kid and I think you'll see why this afternoon. He's an incredibly instinctive defender who would fit well in the middle in our system. He may be the best tackling linebacker I have seen film on in this class. Seriously, the kid wraps up and drives his feet just the way you teach it. He will be a good one.
The West roster doesn't have a lot of guys who we'll see in the SEC in coming years, but there are some talented players nonetheless. Gig Harbor, Washington product Austin Sefarian-Jenkins is either the #1 or #2 tight end in the country depending on which recruiting service you prefer. The West will feature a quartet of talented tailbacks in Malcolm Brown (Texas commit), Herschel Sims (Oklahoma State), Aaron Green (Nebraska) and Kenny Hilliard (LSU). Also keep an eye out for Seattle standout Kasen Williams, who as a junior was the top target of current BYU QB Jake Heaps.
All in all it should be a reasonably interesting matchup, especially if you follow high school recruiting and want to see some of the stars of tomorrow (and perhaps a few guys who will soon be forgotten in the college football world). Perhaps we'll get a totallt nonbinding verbal commitment out of the deal, perhaps we won't. Either way, what else are you going to do until the UGA/Kentucky basketball game at 4? Work? Chores? Please.
So whether or not you got YKK on your zipper, whether you're slizzurd or sober, let's all keep some perspective, watch some football, and make a fresh start in this thread:

Lythgoe Says American Idol More Diverse Without Simon Cowell

While JLo may have had her “Randy who?” moment. It’s American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe’s turn with “Simon who?”

Lythgoe told US that not only has Simon’s exit allowed for a more diverse crowd of American Idol hopefuls, but the emotional level of the show has been raised. Yikes. That’s pretty rough on ol’ Simon.

“We’ve had some incredible country voices — in truth, Simon would have gotten rid of them straight-away because he wasn’t a country fan,” Lythgoe told Us. “This season we have a 16-year-old kid with an incredible voice and a jazz kid who does this fabulous scat-singing. Again, we wouldn’t have had him on the show because Simon would have said, ‘He’s not an American Idol! Get rid of him!’ … What you are definitely going to get this season is an American voice and American music.”

With Cowell gone, “The energy in the audition rooms is totally different,” Lythgoe told Us. “You aren’t tired at the end of the day, even though we are seeing twice as many kids as we did in the past. We are enjoying it; we are laughing.”

Nigel goes on with more details on how each judge is handling their roles. He cites Steven Tyler for his kind way of letting down singers, Lopez is giving strong direction, but it’s Randy who’s really stepping up his game from past seasons. Maybe Jennifer will have a little competition for the lead after all.

Do you think American Idol can pull through without Simon Cowell?

The end result is a exceptional collection of truly heartfelt songs about love that relays what Castro calls a positive message of love and acceptance, including his hit single “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again” and his stunning version of the Leonard Cohen classic “Hallelujah.” Who I Am is an extension of the successful release of his self-titled album, which debuted at the #18 spot on the Billboard Top 200.

Also coming out on November 9 is the digital only five song EP entitled Changing Colors: Live From Studio 1290, which features live, full band acoustic versions of the songs “Changing Colors,” “If I Were You,” “It Matters To Me,” “Love Uncompromised” and his version of the Tom Petty tune ““Learning To Fly.”

Lythgoe praises ‘American Idol’ chemistry

Nigel Lythgoe has reportedly praised the chemistry between American Idol judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

The trio have been filming the audition stage of the Fox competition this summer, following the announcement that Lopez and Tyler had been signed as judges.

Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Lythgoe said: “I love three [judges] first off, and I think the chemistry is great in comparison to where it went [in the last few seasons].

“Randy’s come out of the shadows, I’m really happy with Randy. Randy is Simon Cowell now. Stephen is a lot of fun. And Jennifer just cares. She is like Paula [Abdul] with the caring but she’s a little tougher.”

Lopez recently spoke out about her experience as a judge so far, saying that she was having a great time and laughing off rumors of feuding behind the scenes. However, she also admitted that she found it hard at times to say no to certain contestants.

American Idol returns to Fox in January 2011.
