B.J. Raji And Caleb Hanie Trade Touchdowns video

Packers Vs. Bears Score: B.J. Raji And Caleb Hanie Trade Touchdowns, Green Bay Up 21-14 video

Gigantic Green Bay Packers DT B.J. Raji, listed at 337 pounds that we know of, intercepted Chicago Bears third-string QB Caleb Hanie. Darting 18 yards into the end zone, sort of fumbling the ball at the goal line, and breaking out a ravishing hip swivel, Raji appeared to have punched the Packers’ ticket to Arlington, but you can never count out Hanie, because you have never heard of him.

It’s the first career touchdown for Raji and the first postseason interception for Hanie.

The Bears responded by operating in a no-huddle, and with under five minutes to go Hanie had the ball moving. The score came on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Earl Bennett, and Chicago isn’t quite out of it yet. Hanie now has 103 yards in well under a quarter of football, making him Chicago's leading passer on the day.

Gene braves a laundromat

All washed up: Gene braves a laundromat

The very large men stood outside the very small basement door of my urban row house, holding a new washing machine, dubiously eyeing the aperture through which they'd have to pass. They had already removed the appliance from its bulky cardboard box, but there was still just a quarter-inch of clearance.

"Can't guarantee there won't be scratches," said the foreman.

"No problem!" I said. "We like scratches!"

"We love scratches!" amended my wife, the lawyer, who said she'd be happy to indemnify the delivery men in writing, individually and severally, in perpetuity, for any blemishes, large or small, whether incurred through scrape, dent, gouge or trough. Just get it in.

We had been rendered temporarily insane, having been without a home washing machine for two months and three days, trapped in the Catch-22 of having an "extended warranty." This meant that after the old washing machine broke, we couldn't buy a new one until we'd given the company essentially unlimited opportunities to repair the original. They kept sending over the same mechanic, who would arrive each time with a different part and a can-do attitude, only to emerge from the basement 40 minutes later, stammering and weasel-eyed. He'd never come right out and say he'd failed, but I'd know it, because he always began, "Okay, here's where we're at. ..."

The third time this happened, I stopped him mid-sentence with a raised palm, met his eyes, man to man, pointed upstairs, and growl-whispered, like Clint Eastwood to the punk: "Do you hear that noise? That is my wife taking a shower. Judging from the length of time she has been in there, she'll be out in about one minute. I strongly advise you to not be in the house when I have to tell her the washing machine is still not fixed." I have not seen a big man move that fast since Jumbo Elliott was opening holes at left tackle for the New York Giants.

I know what you are thinking: These are modern times, you are thinking. It's not as though we were going to have to go down to the creek to pound our clothes clean with rocks. And you are right. It was worse than that. We had to use the local laundromat.

This laundromat is not one of those brightly lighted, cheerful, modern suburban facilities with amenities such as jukeboxes, arcade games and children's play areas. This laundromat is frequented by persons who use it to wash the clothing they are currently wearing. The only amenity is a bathroom with a toilet that doesn't flush. There are two signs. One says "No Loitering"; the other, "No Beer." Half of the 20 small machines don't work, meaning that whenever we descended on it with a week's worth of laundry produced by three adult people, we needed all available machines. The first thing we did -- even before unpacking our clothes -- was to scurry from one machine to another, pouring a cupful of soap into each. We were like feral dogs, marking our territory before anyone else came in to challenge us.

One day, just moments after we arrived, a woman came in with a basket of clothes. Hunched protectively over machines we had not yet claimed, we stared up at her in such a way that she stopped in her tracks and slowly backed out.

No, we felt no shame. Desperate times justify desperate measures.

After six weeks of failing to fix our old machine, the appliance company finally declared it dead. The fulfillment of the warranty, alas, fell to a second company, which took two more weeks to decide that it would offer us three-quarters of the price of a new machine. This deal was a baldfaced violation of our warranty, which guaranteed "full replacement." Plus, the offer didn't cover our aggravation or the more than $150 we had spent in quarters. It was deeply insulting, utterly outrageous, clearly tendered on the assumption that we had no dignity worth protecting.

We said yes immediately.

Macaulay Culkin With Irene Lopez Business

Macaulay Culkin Catching Up on Business with Irene Lopez?

Macaulay Culkin appears to be on a mission after his breakup with Mila Kunis…he was recently caught entering Club Bagdad in Barcelona, Italy with actress Irene Lopez. They were arm in arm, according to The Sun, and it did not appear she was there to work, although that is her usual line of business when being filmed. Club Bagdad is exclusively for consenting adults, if you catch my drift, and I sincerely hope young Culkin was using protection.

Mila Kunis and Culkin dated for the last eight years before their breakup in early January — a break up with coincided with Kunis’ rocket to big screen stardom with her role in the acclaimed “Black Swan.” Kunis was famous before, but not nearly as big as she is now after that movie.

Irene Lopez is famous for her racy movies in Spain…one wonders how good Culkin’s Spanish is, or if their relationship needs no words. Whatever Culkin’s goal is right now, it is definitely mission possible with Senorita Lopez!

Transparency Spreads To Local School District

Wichita - January 10, 2011 - In a continuing effort to make data accessible to Kansas taxpayers, KansasOpenGov.org now hosts district checkbooks, payroll listings, and employment agreements for five districts from across the state. Fully searchable data is available for school districts in Olathe, Shawnee Mission, Garden City, Hutchinson, and Emporia. As many districts discuss potentially dramatic cuts that would impact the classroom, it is important to have a clear understanding of how schools spend taxpayer money.

"Citizens have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent at all levels of government - this is no different with local school districts," offered KPI President Dave Trabert. "School spending is 53% of state general fund spending and people should be able to know how that money is being spent, right down to the last dollar."

Some of the noteworthy findings from the 2009-10 school year for the five districts posted today include;
USD 308 in Hutchinson spent well over $100,000 for staff to attend conferences and workshops;
USD 512 Shawnee Mission paid $62,711 to the Head Custodian at one high school;
A $46,398 raise was given to the superintendent of USD 233 in Olathe over the past two years, bringing last year's total pay to $272,229;
USD 253 Emporia's two highest paid teachers each were paid more than $72,000 and both are Physical Education teachers;
USD 457 Garden City spent over $188,000 on consultants;
72 people were paid more $100,000 by Shawnee Mission; Olathe, with similar enrollment, had 52 people above the $100,000 level.
This school district information was obtained directly from the individual school district using Kansas Open Records requests. Five more districts around the state will be added later in January.

Trabert continued, "This isn't about saying who is spending too much or too little. It is about empowering taxpayers, school employees and elected officials with data to help them make informed decisions. We all want every Kansas kid to have a solid, cost-effective education. This kind of information helps make that a reality."

"Kansas faces a budget projected budget deficit of over $500 million next year and we have to start asking tough questions and making tough decisions. We need to position our state for economic growth now and not kick the can down the road. This includes challenging every student with the right educational opportunities, but it also means financing it with sound policy that allows for entrepreneurial job creation," concluded Trabert.

Kansas Orthodontist Steps Up College Scholarship Support

Robert Fry, DDS, of Fry Orthodontics, Overland Park, Kansas, and his family have created a new scholarship program for students from the Olathe School District. The Harmony Challenge program will select four sophomore students from the school district this spring to receive college scholarships.

The selected students will receive a scholarship, as well as continuing support including job and internship opportunities, mentorship programs, and schoolwork support.

For the past 10 years, the Frys had provided the scholarships anonymously. They decided to get involved publicly to provide more direct support to the students as they progress.

Sergio Ramos Chelsea to stump up £25 million

Morning Tittle-Tattle: Ramos battle to begin, Wright-Phillips to sign, Saints wonderkid chase hots up, Chelsea to stump up £25 million And Real still covet Tevez

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is considering his future at the Bernabeu after reports emanating from Spain suggested he and star player Cristiano Ronaldo had an amazing bust-up over the Portuguese ace’s attitude. Subsequently the player’s agent is making tentative enquiries over a potential move to the Premier League with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all interested in the versatile Spaniard. (Sport.co.uk)

Manchester City star Shaun Wright-Phillips is expected to snub interest from a host of Premier League clubs in favour a loan move to Fulham. Sunderland, Newcastle United, Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa have all been linked with the 29-year-old England international this month, but it appears he will be linking up with former boss Mark Hughes. (Daily Mail)

Fulham have joined Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the hunt for Southampton sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 17-year-old has emerged as one of the most desirable young talents in English football, and has also been scouted by Everton and Newcastle United in recent weeks. Arsenal remain the favourites for the midfielder’s signature. (Goal.com)

Chelsea are ready to increase their offer for Benfica defender David Luiz by making a £25 million final bid for the talented Brazilian international. Luiz, who is capable of playing anywhere across the back-four, is widely considered to be one of the best young defenders on the continent and has also been monitored by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City. (Daily Mail)

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made Blackburn Rovers defender Christophe Samba his top target this month and is ready to offer £7 million for the want-away Ewood Park star. (Daily Mirror)

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to land Manchester City talisman Carlos Tevez despite the Eastlands club’s insistence the Argentine is not for sale. Regardless of Roberto Mancini’s desire to retain the former Manchester United star, Mourinho will press ahead with a bid in excess of £37.6 million. (Daily Telegraph)

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is again emerged as target for Premier League champions Chelsea, with Carlo Ancelotti ready to bid £5 million in order to bring in cover for Petr Cech. (Daily Express)

Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle United are all chasing Marseille defender Taye Taiwo with the aforementioned trio expected to bid £5 million for the Nigerian this month. (TalkSport)

Aston Villa are no rush to sell defender Richard Dunne despite his well documented problems with Gerard Houllier. The former Everton and Manchester City was yesterday linked with an unlikely move to Arsenal, but the Midlands side appear eager to retain the Republic of Ireland international. (Daily Mail)

Chelsea will not be pursuing a move for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill, after Owen Coyle placed a £25 million valuation on the England international. Arsenal and Tottenham have both been linked with the former Aston Villa youngster, but all likely to be deterred by the Trotters’ valuation of their star asset. (The Times)

Apple Results U.S. Japan earnings

Nikkei up on hopes for robust U.S., Japan earnings

(Reuters) - The Nikkei average rose for a third straight session on Wednesday, inching towards recent eight-month highs as a mostly upbeat start to the U.S. earnings season lifted expectations for Japanese firms to show further recovery.

Target price hikes for Google and earth-moving equipment maker Caterpillar have bolstered hopes that the world's No.1 economy is on a sustainable recovery path and sent U.S. stocks higher, despite weak results from Citigroup.

The Nikkei has climbed 3 percent this year and is up 15 percent since the start of November after many foreign investors changed their stance on laggard Japanese stocks to neutral from underweight.

"Retail investors are joining foreigners, but they are mostly buying small and mid-size cap shares, concentrating on news for particular sectors or individual companies," said Hiroaki Osakabe, a fund manager at Chibagin Asset Management.

Analysts said such a buying pattern was behind Wednesday's surge in textiles , which outperformed other sectors with a rise of 3.1 percent helped by an across-the-board hike in share price targets by Goldman Sachs on attractive valuations.

Toray Industries Inc, Japan's largest maker of synthetic fibres, jumped 4.7 percent to 556 yen and Teijin Ltd surged 6.6 percent to 421 yen, becoming the biggest percentage gainer among the Nikkei 225 components.

Brokers said individual investors now stand for some 30 to 40 percent of the market, indicating that the mood remains upbeat.

"This pattern will likely stay unchanged for a while, pushing upgraded stocks and individual sectors higher on high volume," said Masayuki Otani, chief market analyst at Securities Japan, Inc.

"But advances in the whole index are limited as investors consolidate around new levels and slowly brace for a small correction, which may be triggered once all positive factors linked to robust earnings disappear after companies have reported later this month."

The benchmark Nikkei ended the day up 0.4 percent or 38.12 points at 10,557.10.

Resistance now looms at 10,620.57, an eight-month peak marked last week, market players said. If that level is breached, the next target investors are eyeing is 10,638.23, a high hit in May last year.

The broader Topix index rose 0.6 percent to 936.87.

With individual investors actively buying, trading volume was firm, with 2.2 billion shares changing hands on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's first section, slightly below last week's average of 2.3 billion.

SMELTERS ADVANCE
Non-ferrous metals smelters were also among the Nikkei's top gainers, with the sector index adding 2.5 percent as copper hovered near record highs on Wednesday on a weaker dollar.

Sumitomo Metal Mining gained 4.9 percent to 1,456 yen and Dowa Holdings climbed 5.2 percent to 592 yen.

Market participants said foreign buying is set to continue on expectations Japanese companies will show further improvements in their October-December earnings, but also stressed that earnings are still well below levels from before the financial crisis.

"The 300 companies that best represent the Japanese economy would have to post year-on-year increases of up to 14-15 percent to seriously beat market expectations," said Kazuhiro Takahashi, general manager at Daiwa Securities Capital Markets.

Market will also look for news about how well-prepared the firms are to sustain an earnings recovery in the long run. Chibagin's Osakabe mentioned cost control, structural changes, exposure to growing Asian markets and foreign currency hedging as key focal points for the market.

Social network and gaming company Gree was up 3.4 percent at 1,174 yen after announcing on Tuesday it would go into the smartphone ad network business, connecting advertisers with websites that want to run advertisements.

Indian Oil teams up with NPCIL

Indian Oil teams up with NPCIL

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) have signed a joint venture agreement for the construction of nuclear power plants in the country.

The agreement was signed in Mumbai on 12 January by IOCL chairman Brij Mohan Bansal and NPCIL chairman and managing director S K Jain. The signing of the joint venture agreement follows a memorandum of understanding between the two companies in June 2009.

In a statement, IOCL said: "In its endeavour to be an integrated energy major and especially to partner low-carbon energy business, Indian Oil is steadfast in its commitment to partner India's energy security goals." It added, "With this historic agreement, the corporation's already successful forays into renewable energy sources like solar, wind bio-fuels, hydrogen, etc, will now be augmented by nuclear energy. Nuclear energy offers emission-free and environment-friendly energy on the expanding scale the world so urgently requires."

In April 2010, NPCIL signed an agreement with India's National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for the construction of new nuclear power plants. Under the deal, a joint venture company will be set up as a subsidiary of NPCIL, in which NPCIL will hold a 51% stake and NTPC will hold the remainder.

The NPCIL-NTPC joint venture was the first joint venture in nuclear power generation in India. Several private companies in India have expressed an interest in entering the nuclear power generating business through joint ventures with NPCIL.

Presently, only NPCIL and Bhavini - a government enterprise set up to focus on fast breeder reactors - are authorized to construct nuclear power plants in India. Current legislation calls for NPCIL to hold a majority stake in any nuclear power plant project. It is expected, however, that the rules will be changed in time to allow other competent companies to control nuclear infrastructure.

Life Unexpected Cancelled

Life Unexpected Series Finale...2 years and a lot of wrap up in 2 minutes

Tonight was the series finale of Life Unexpected. It was a cute show, but the female leads tending to be on the ultra annoying side so I could see why the viewers were irritated to death and the show got the axe.

I would wrap up the entire 2 hour finale...except it would just take up too much space.  So I will tell you that in the last 15 minutes of the show they jump ahead 2 years and you get to see who ends up with whom.  So here it goes.

Lux is no longer an idiot and is valedictorian of her class (complete rubbish if you ask me). Her and Tasha are going to college together (cause some places are really keen on accepting kids who have been to juvie with assault charges).

Ryan is now with the ex-finance Julie and they have a kid together (that they conceived when he was still with Cate...what a man-slut). Math has finally found a woman and has impregnated (and I am assuming married) the producer of the Cate and Ryan show, Alice.

Baze and Cate are finally together and making out.

And Lux also has a man...but it is not the teacher, unfortunately...cause that would have been a ridiculous ending to a ridiculous season...no she is finally with Jones.  I guess having a bi-polar mother finally makes him good enough for her.

Sometimes I wish that shows would do that...wrap everything up when they know  that they are getting cancelled and tell the audience where the people would have ended up if the show ended later on...but after this I am glad that most shows just leave us guessing.  The most confusing and annoying ending I have ever come across.  (My favorites are still Friends and Fresh Prince....both empty houses. Hum, weird).

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion promo

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' reunion promo: Camille Grammer was 'set up' to look bad

Season after season of the Real Housewives franchise has taught us to tolerate the insipid spa scenes and insufferable cackling for one reason: The plumped-up reunion episodes. And based on the latest promo for the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills two-part reunion (airing on Jan. 27 and Feb. 1), this one will make waves at the water-cooler. Though the beginning of the promo is indistinguishable from a Mad Men teaser — with various cast members saying ambiguous things like, “Keep it straight,” “You started the fight,” and “You compared yourself to Jesus” (It’s the new “Shut the door!“) — the rest of the trailer is plenty juicy: Bullying accusations, alcoholism suspicions, and talk of just how much boob you can show before you are no longer considered a nun. Also: The much-reviled Camille Grammer uses the oldest excuse in the book for her behavior: “This whole season was set up to make me look bad.” Yawn.

Know this, Allison Dubois: You will enjoy the promo embedded after the jump!

EMC Ramps Storage Wars

EMC Ramps Up Storage Wars

As it unveils a lower-priced data-storage line, the company takes aim at mom and pop—and NetApp, IBM, HP and Hitachi.
Bigfoot is going after mom and pop.

Storage behemoth EMC (ticker: EMC) is expected to make a big splash Tuesday, by launching a line of lower-priced data-storage arrays that should rock the computing market's middle and lower tiers, an industry member says.

The Hopkinton, Mass., industry leader plans a global unveiling in New York, London and Singapore of the products, which will be priced below comparable systems from NetApp (NTAP), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and International Business Machines (IBM).

NetApp, considered EMC's toughest foe, commands roughly a quarter of the small-to-medium storage market, known as SMB. IBM and HP are also significant SMB players; some of their storage products are bundled with the computer servers they sell. EMC isn't in the server business, except through a nascent collaboration with Cisco Systems (CSCO) that offers machines that combine servers, storage and networking in a single box.

EMC's storage line, called VNX, will feature an entry-level array (VNXe), expected to start at $9,500 per unit. That would be the least expensive machine in its class—even less than those of Dell (DELL), a close partner of EMC, the industry member says. In fact, what little exposure EMC has to the fast-growing SMB market has been through its collaboration with Dell, which ratcheted up its own storage offerings by acquiring EqualLogic in 2008.

Since the start of 2010, EMC stock has moved up steadily, from around 18 to almost 25, and the VNX line might keep the momentum going. The biggest bulls on the company see it hitting the high 20s or 30 in a year.

EMC has long been a dominant player in high-end storage, competing with IBM and Hitachi Data Systems, a unit of Japan's Hitachi (HIT), which offer refrigerator-size arrays. But cracking the vast SMB market hasn't been easy. By undercutting its rivals' pricing and using computer resellers, EMC thinks it can sell 50,000 to 100,000 SMB units a year. The VNX line will include EMC's current middle-tier products, Celerra and Clariion, although their brand names will be retired.

EMC's marketing machine, which views this VNX launch as its biggest ever, plans various record-breaking stunts—including an Evel Knievel-esque jump on a Harley-Davidson over an unprecedented amount of storage gear—to underscore the point that the products are being sold at a record-low price. EMC also plans to shatter the record for the number of people crammed into a Mini Cooper, the pint-sized car that BMW has used to gain entrée to new customers at the lower end of the auto market.

The VNX line fires a broadside at NetApp, which has been aggressively acquiring companies to exploit the trend toward virtualization and data-center consolidation. Last week, it announced it's buying privately held Akorri Networks, a cloud-storage vendor, for an undisclosed sum. Look for NetApp, EMC and their rivals to continue feeding on smaller storage outfits over the coming months. The storage wars have only just begun.

BlackBerry Storm 3 Specs Leaked

Exclusive BlackBerry Storm 3 shows up, tells all

Just a few days after a photo of the rumored BlackBerry Dakota was leaked, Boy Genius Report has scored details on another BlackBerry smartphone that is allegedly in the works: the Storm 3.

In addition to posting several leaked pictures of the BlackBerry Storm 3, Boy Genius Report shared (unofficial) product specs. The Storm 3, which will reportedly be released around September, "will feature the highest resolution display to ever ship on a BlackBerry smartphone -- a 800 x 480-pixel display and yes, it will have an optical trackpad," writes BGR.

It will also have a 3G mobile hotspot, 5-megapixel camera, and 512 MB of RAM, according to the site's scoop.

BlackBerry's Storm hasn't been well received in the past. Venture Beat calls it "kind of a bust" and Engadget writes, 'We've no doubt that the phone is real at this point, but considering the lukewarm reception the Storm 2 got, we're surprised RIM hasn't pushed harder to get the updated device to market -- only thing we can figure is that the carrier partners keep sending it back for tweaks."

You thought we were done revealing RIM’s 2011 BlackBerry lineup? Not quite yet. In addition to the new BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve, and BlackBerry Torch 2, we have received photos and information about the BlackBerry Storm 3. The specifications on the Storm 3 are pretty impressive and will definitely position this Storm sequel nicely among other top-of-market handsets. It also will feature the highest resolution display to ever ship on a BlackBerry smartphone — a 800 x 480-pixel display and yes, it will have an optical trackpad (though we’re not sure why). Here is the thing, it’s entirely possible RIM will change the Storm branding on the device — codenames are Monaco and Monza for the global devices — we’ll have to wait and see. We have all the specs after the break!

* 1.2GHz processor
* 3.7-inch 800 x 480 capacitive display
* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
* Tri-band UMTS/HSPA
* 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording
* 8GB eMMC (storage for apps and data), 512MB of RAM
* microSD slot
* Magnetometer
* Proximity sensor
* Accelerometer
* Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
* 2.4GHz b/g/n and 5GHz a/n Wi-Fi + UMA
* 3G Mobile hotspot
* Optical trackpad
* 1230 mAh battery
* BlackBerry OS 6.1
* OpenGL ES 2.0

The BlackBerry Storm 3 looks good for a release around September of this year, and from what we have been told, the Storm 3 will launch in two or possibly three versions globally.

Wes Welker Puts His Foot Up Rex Ryan

Wes Welker Puts His Foot Up Rex Ryan — A Real Tickler

The best trash talk in advance of the New York Jets' NFL playoff game Saturday against the New England Patriots hasn't come from the usual suspects, like the Jets' Rex Ryan and Antonio Cromartie.

No, it's from Patriot receiver Wes Welker, normally just a well-behaved foot soldier. Droll and deadpan at one of a hundred pre-game press conferences, Welker made fun of Coach Ryan's widely publicized foot fetish.

Ryan's not the only white guy with sole. Click the jump for the foot-fetish video starring Ryan and his wife, Michelle.

After Deadspin broke the video just before Christmas, Ryan and the team called it a "personal matter." Uh-huh.

MLA raped Hot News Report

MLA rape: Victim and accused behind bars in UP

Lucknow, Jan 14: There is no place else in this world where an alleged rapist who holds a seat of authority rapes an under-age girl and then has the cheek to come out with a statement that he will seek revenge on those who have implicated him of the crime.
This cannot happen in anywhere else but India and its strange justice-delivery system. It has to recalled that the CB-CID had already came out with the report that the girl had been raped and accusations against her were found to be false.

The BSP MLA, Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi was finally arrested after being absconding for the last couple of days. The baffling fact remains now is that both the victim and the accused are now behind bars. Though the accused is in his rightful place, the Dalit girl is in jail for a crime she did not commit.

Brinda Karat, Politburo member of CPM commented on the sorry state of affairs and said, "Why is the minor girl still behind bars, this is an outrageous mockery of the judicial process, this is outrageous and unacceptable."

"This man Dwivedi has a strong record of criminality behind him, yet he is one of the leaders and then he commits this crime. Even to date Naseemuddin Siddiqui and others who are ministers from the district, have not given a single statement against him," said Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Chief, UPCC.

The case is looked upon with interest especially after it grabbed media headlines and more importantly since it happened under the leadership of a woman Chief Minister in UP.

Sting likes to 'dress up' his wife for sex

Sting likes to 'dress up' his wife for sex

Sting likes to "dress up" his wife for sex so their love life doesn't become "pedestrian."

The 'Fields Of Gold' singer has been married to film producer Trudie Styler for 18 years and said their keenness to experiment in the bedroom helps keep their passion for each other alive.

He told America's Harper's Bazaar magazine: "When we see each other, it's romance. I don't think pedestrian sex is very interesting. There's a playfulness we have; I like the theatre of sex.

"I like to look good. I like her to dress up. I like to dress her up."

The 59-year-old rocker -- who has four children with Trudie and two other kids from a previous marriage -- never takes his 56-year-old wife for granted, and believes they are still "lucky" to enjoy one another's company.

He added: "Romantic? We like tawdry. We treat every day as it comes. Relationships aren't easy, and I don't think they're particularly natural, but we're lucky because we actually like each other. We love each other -- that's a given -- but Trudie lights my world up when she comes into a room. I don't take her for granted."

The couple have long been rumoured to be practitioners of tantric sex -- a practice which has its roots in Hinduism, and sees couples lock into static 'sexual embrace' to make love for hours at a time -- but Sting says this is more than simply a physical practice.

He said in 2003: "Sex is only the surface. Tantra is much too complex for me to discuss. But it's about reconnecting with the world of the spirit through everyday things. My church happens to be the person I live with. She is my connection to the sacred."

Sting and Trudie -- who once told radio host they enjoy swingers' parties, only to later retract the statement -- have also famously opened up their New York apartment to a magazine in 2007, revealing their bedroom to be adorned with erotic prints of almost nude women.

OPM pension errors force thousands to pay up

Due to its own errors, the Office of Personnel Management for nearly five years undercharged thousands of federal employees for pension contributions. Now, OPM is demanding they immediately pay — in some cases thousands of dollars — to correct their pension accounts.
The reason: OPM charged about 8,500 federal employees the wrong interest on their service credit deposits or redeposits since 2006. OPM says it fixed the problem last month, once and for all.
The amount that affected feds owe varies widely — some owe less than $100, some owe thousands. Some have been overcharged and will receive a refund — though OPM will not pay them interest.
Service credit deposits are contributions that employees make into their retirement program — either the Civil Service Retirement System or Federal Employees Retirement System — to make up for periods in which they were federal employees but did not contribute. Some, for example, were working part time and others were serving in the military.
Redeposits are contributions that employees make into their retirement program after they have left government, withdrawn their retirement contributions, and then later returned to government. The redeposits enable them to count their previous periods of employment as service toward their eligibility to retire, and in calculating the size of their pensions.
OPM realized in July 2008 that its computer systems were incorrectly calculating the interest rate many feds owed on those deposits. Some who should have been charged variable interest rates were charged a flat 3 percent rate, and vice versa. Others were not charged interest at all in some years.
Bill Zielinski, OPM's associate director of retirement and benefits, told Federal Times that the agency thinks the problem stemmed from a flawed upgrade to its computer system in April 2006. Zielinski said OPM doesn't think there were any earlier interest miscalculations, but said he was not certain.
"We know that there were systems changes around that time," Zielinski said. "We have cases where interest was calculated incorrectly as early as April 2006. But we can't definitively say it wasn't going on for years."
OPM shut down faulty parts of the system when it realized it had a problem and began recalculating the interest owed for all affected accounts by hand. OPM said it is now sending letters and current statements to affected account holders, including some people who made payments and did not get receipts.
Because the problem took so long to fix, OPM said it will give affected feds a six-month interest-free window, which will end June 30, to pay their balances.
Some federal employees affected by the miscalculations are angry at OPM.
One U.S. Postal Service employee, who asked to remain anonymous because she was not authorized to talk to the press, said she deposited the entire $450 she owed in 2003. But last week she got a letter from OPM that said she owed another $930.
"Back seven years ago, they said it would cost X amount of dollars to buy back my time," she said. "I said, process it. Now they're saying if you want to continue to have these four years' credit, you have to pay us more, otherwise they'll drop it. In my mind, that's extortion."
She said she'll probably work out some payment schedule to pay the rest, so she doesn't lose her time and the money she's already redeposited.
"I think it's sad that they look to us to correct their mistakes," she said.
Zielinski said he was not sure why that employee's interest rate was miscalculated if she had paid it in full in 2003, three years before the computer changes believed to have caused the problem were made.
Another employee, a civilian Army information technology specialist who also asked not to be named, said he paid most of his service credit redeposit in October, and was told one month later that he would owe more. But though an OPM official said in November that they'd tell him in two or three weeks how much more he owed, he never heard back. He said Jan. 6 that he hadn't gotten a letter, and frequently got a busy signal when he tried to call OPM's help line.
"It does give me some frustration, but I do understand they're overloaded," he said.
Fixing the problem proved more complicated than OPM expected.
Last February, OPM Director John Berry told Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., in a letter that OPM would fix the problem by March 2010.
But Zielinski said those fixes didn't work. And when Berry realized the planned repair was falling short, he scrapped it, devoted more resources to the project and reached out to OPM Inspector General Patrick McFarland. IG staffers worked with OPM through the rest of last year to come up with a solution.
Zielinski said the government's complicated deposit and redeposit rules have many different elements, and OPM's previous solution didn't accurately account for them. The IG's office helped provide the necessary technical resources and developed quality-assurance checks to make sure the new solution would work, Zielinski said.
"The IG was involved every step of the way since then in putting the new plan into place," Zielinski said. "Given the importance of this, we wanted to make sure we were actually fixing what needed to be fixed."
Dave Snell, retirement benefits director for the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, said he is happy that OPM has finally fixed the problem.
"This has been going on for a couple of years, and it's very good news they were able to do this for future retirees," Snell said. "It's been a heck of a job, evidently, to get this fixed."

New York Archdiocese Says It Plans to Close 27 Schools

Parents To Mayor: Make Up Your Mind On School Closings

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – It’s a waiting game to find out if New York City children will go to school Wednesday.

And some parents are angry saying Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s late call will leave them scrambling for child care, reports CBS 2’s Demetra Ganias.

We’re expecting a snowy mess when we wake up Wednesday morning, but students and teachers might just get a snow day. The problem is they’ll have to wait until 5 a.m. to figure it out. That’s a problem for many parents, especially because the mayor has already declared a weather emergency.

When Ganias reached out to the Department of Education about the late call to close schools she was told that Mayor Bloomberg and Education Chancellor Cathie Black will compare notes and make a final decision. However, many parents are begging for more of a heads up.

“By this evening, at least by 8 o’clock this evening. Let us know something, so we can prepare for tomorrow,” one Upper West Side parent said.

When asked what she is going to do if she has to work and the kids are home, one parent from Brooklyn said, “I really don’t know. I’m stuck, just like the last time.”

New York Archdiocese Says It Plans to Close 27 Schools

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York announced on Tuesday that 26 elementary schools and one high school that had received heavy subsidies in recent years because of declining enrollment would be closed at the end of the current school year.

The announcement capped a two-year review process and represented the largest school consolidation in the history of the archdiocese, which includes 2.5 million Catholics in a sprawling territory stretching from Staten Island to Sullivan County. Among the schools to be shut, six are in the Bronx, four are on Staten Island and three are in Manhattan.

Timothy J. McNiff, the archdiocese’s superintendent of schools, said in a statement that schools were chosen for closing because of declining enrollment and money.

The 27 schools marked for closing received subsidies totaling $10 million this year. By comparison, the remaining 189 parochial schools in the archdiocese received a total of $13 million in subsidies, Joseph Zwilling, the archdiocesan spokesman, said.

Most parochial schools depend on tuition, which ranges from $3,000 to $6,000 per pupil, and the support of the members of the parish in which they are located, as their main sources of financing. As part of its Pathways to Excellence reconfiguration of schools, the archdiocese plans to shift some of that burden from individual parishes to clusters of two or more parishes.

The archdiocese has promised to find places in other parochial schools for all of the roughly 4,700 students affected by the closings.

The announcement contained good news for 5 schools among the 32 identified by the archdiocese last year as “at risk” of being closed. One school in Manhattan — Good Shepherd — another in Westchester County and two in upstate counties will remain open. A decision on a fifth school, Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Midtown Manhattan, was deferred for several weeks, according to the announcement, “so that additional information can be gathered and analyzed.”
