MLA rape: Victim and accused behind bars in UP
Lucknow, Jan 14: There is no place else in this world where an alleged rapist who holds a seat of authority rapes an under-age girl and then has the cheek to come out with a statement that he will seek revenge on those who have implicated him of the crime.
This cannot happen in anywhere else but India and its strange justice-delivery system. It has to recalled that the CB-CID had already came out with the report that the girl had been raped and accusations against her were found to be false.
The BSP MLA, Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi was finally arrested after being absconding for the last couple of days. The baffling fact remains now is that both the victim and the accused are now behind bars. Though the accused is in his rightful place, the Dalit girl is in jail for a crime she did not commit.
Brinda Karat, Politburo member of CPM commented on the sorry state of affairs and said, "Why is the minor girl still behind bars, this is an outrageous mockery of the judicial process, this is outrageous and unacceptable."
"This man Dwivedi has a strong record of criminality behind him, yet he is one of the leaders and then he commits this crime. Even to date Naseemuddin Siddiqui and others who are ministers from the district, have not given a single statement against him," said Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Chief, UPCC.
The case is looked upon with interest especially after it grabbed media headlines and more importantly since it happened under the leadership of a woman Chief Minister in UP.
