Bernard Tomic’s tennis ability against world No. 1 Rafael Nadal

Tonight Australia will get the measure of Bernard Tomic’s tennis ability against world No. 1 Rafael Nadal, writes Linda Pearce

Ask Pat Rafter about it. Rafter, remember, was the charismatic emerging star whose round-of-16 contest against the great Andre Agassi in 1995 prime-time was promoted like few Australian Open matches before it. Rafter was belted in three sets, the last 6-0. The damage was extensive, the recovery slow. Six months later, having dipped 40 places in the world rankings, Rafter finally won consecutive tour matches again.

Two majors and a stint at No.1 later, Rafter is Australia’s Davis Cup captain, pressed into the job by his old mentor John Newcombe and welcomed by a desperate Tennis Australia as still the best-loved face in Australian tennis, a decade in retirement notwithstanding. The underwear and deodorant salesman will soon have a more demanding job: dealing with the prodigious talent that will tonight feature on Rod Laver Arena against world No.1 Rafael Nadal.

Rafter was involved in the decision to award Bernard Tomic an Open wildcard for the third consecutive year, but also party to the minor wrist-slap that required the occasionally wayward 18-year-old to qualify in Sydney earlier that week. Through the first top-50 wins of Tomic’s career, the second over a discombobulated 31st seed Feliciano Lopez, the result is this: Tomic’s name and face everywhere. Saturday night live. So will the world No.199 handle the hype?
Advertisement: Story continues below

‘‘He’s a pretty relaxed character in a lot of ways; he’s a very different temperament to what I was, so I think he’ll deal with it pretty well,’’ Rafter said. ‘‘Time will tell. But I don’t think it will affect him. It’s just the way he plays, his attitude, and he’s very relaxed. He looks disinterested, but he’s not. I expect him to deal with it pretty well.’’

Handling the ruthless Nadal will be a different matter, but Tomic watchers know that these are the occasions he likes best. Satellite tournaments, despite the fact he already owns one Challenger title, are not really his thing. As a 16-year-old he was the youngest man ever to win a round at the Australian Open, and last year he pushed eventual semi-finalist Marin Cilic to five late sets in round two. Of his seven career wins at tour level, four have come in his home grand slam, including Thursday’s patient dismemberment of a tortured Lopez.

‘‘Well, Rafa is a different story,’’ the beaten Spaniard said later. ‘‘He’s the No.1 player in the world, and Rafa has so many options when he plays now. It’s going to be very tough for Tomic, but I think for him it’s an incredible opportunity for him to show his game to everyone. It’s going to be a great match for him, it’s very exciting and I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for him.’’

Certainly, he plays a style of game Nadal seldom encounters. Wally Masur has compared the languid former junior star to the Greek god of sleep. Jim Courier sees him as a chess player, with an exceptional tennis IQ. But the praise is not universal; Roger Rasheed among those less enamoured of his ‘‘junky’’ style, describing Tomic as an enigma who will quickly be worked out, and his lack of power exposed.

‘‘He knows when to play the junk, that’s the thing,’’ Rafter counters. ‘‘If he knows when to play it, and he works the other guy out, I don’t care how much junk he plays.’’

Indeed, a common reference is to the ‘‘X factor’’, and former doubles star Allan Stone is one of many who draw comparisons with the cat-and-mouse Scot, Andy Murray. ‘‘I think it’s refreshing that someone can play a bit different and still succeed, because we’re so used to seeing the guys just club the ball from the back of the court,’’ said Stone.

‘‘Subtlety, and touch and feel, and using the court and the angles are disappearing from the game, and he seems to be able to bring that. And for some reason, the guys seem to get a bit nervous playing him: they come in and he just rolls it past them; they stay back and he moves them around, then gives them a few junk balls and all of a sudden he cranks it up and hits it a bit harder, and the ball’s gone past you.’’

That has always been Tomic’s way, a gentle lullaby that catches so many off-guard. He says he can hit the ball hard, ‘‘but I don’t do it a lot of the time. That’s sort of not my game, playing hard. I like to play against players, make ’em miss, sort of thing’’.

Courier, indeed, credits Tomic with seeing angles and possibilities where others do not, whose perspective of the court is different to most. ‘‘He’s a real natural tennis player; unique brand,’’ said the US Davis Cup captain, another to compare Tomic to Murray. There is, however a trade-off. Tomic, he says, ‘‘is very developed mentally as a tennis player — physically, not yet’’.

And therein lies the problem. When Mark Philippoussis famously toppled world No.1 Pete Sampras on that explosive Saturday night in 1996, he was a big teenager with a huge serve and game. Rafter’s fear that Tomic’s movement will be exploited is one shared by former top-20 player Masur, for it is all very well to think a good game, but another to be allowed to implement it by the enforcer attempting to win four slams in a row.

‘‘Rafa will turn it into a physical contest, regardless of what tactics Bernie employs,’’ Masur said on Fox Sports. ‘‘So if you take Bernie out on the track now and take his times against Rafa in the 400 [metres], the 100, there’s a big gap, and I think that’s what’s going to be exposed. I just think it doesn’t matter what tactics he employs, Rafa’s got the wheels to deal with it and he will turn it into physical match, and that’s where we’re going to find out where Bernie is physically.’’

Another retired star, Mark Woodforde, was a little more optimistic, describing tonight’s match as a barometer of where Tomic’s game is at and where it is headed. Nadal will push him around and probe for cracks. And while movement is the most obvious structural issue, Tomic’s serve is not considered to be at the same level of a world-class backhand, for example, or his marvellously innate sense of how to play the game.

''Nadal, against some of the players that he doesn't know much about, he's going to be searching for a weakness, so I think at the start he's just going to be moving Bernard left, right, left, right, hitting into the open court, until he senses a weakness,'' said Woodforde, now a commentator and coach. ''There isn't much weakness there, though, because he's a manipulator of the ball and the spin, so it's going to be interesting. If he can stick with Nadal early, then that's terrific. I think it's not out of the question that Bernard can perhaps sneak a set or two.''

Lopez does not like to talk in terms of sets that might be won, but predicts that if Tomic plays well enough, his chances will come. He ranks the Australian in an emerging quartet that includes European prospects Richard Berankis, Grigor Dimitrov and Milos Raonic - dangerous now, likely to be venomous in the future. The problem tonight is that Nadal has no real weakness, so what was good enough against the third-best Spanish left-hander will be insufficient against the best of the best.

Even so, Rafter is happy to confirm his membership of the fan club of a player he describes as ''absolutely'' Australia's best male prospect since Hewitt, who succeeded Philippoussis as the last local teenager to reach the men's third round. And if the serve-volleying Rafter is at a slight loss to describe how Tomic quite manages it, then one does not have to know the secret to a magician's tricks to enjoy his show.

''I still haven't worked him out yet, I can't work out Bernard's game,'' Rafter smiles. ''It's awkward and he's got such a point of difference, and the other guys playing him don't know what's going on, either. So I think he's got them baffled as well, because he's just incredibly awkward, and he's got sneaky weapons.''

He is also stronger and fitter than last year, taller and five kilograms heavier. He has played a big match on centre court, if not anything on the scale of this one. And so the hype-ometer is at maximum capacity, leaving Tomic to deal with the nerves, the anticipation, as the countdown to his big night out ticks on.

''It's excitement, that's what it is,'' said Tomic, who has practised with Nadal previously, but never played him. ''To get this opportunity the first time in my life, it's different. It's an opportunity that I'm going to take, I think.''

Robert Redford For No Retirement Plans

Robert Redford For No Retirement Plans video News

Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford kicked off the program's 30th anniversary with upbeat and reflective opening remarks. Sharing the stage at the venerable Egyptian Theater in Park City with festival director John Cooper and Sundance Institute Executive Director Keri Putnam, Redford reflected on the program's humble beginnings, its mission of encouraging new and unique voices in film, and its growing global presence through satellite programs in Europe and India.

“In 1980, I wanted to create a space and a place for independent artists with new ideas and new voices to have a place to go,” he said. That vision grew from a maverick no-budget operation that exhibited movies on church pews in borrowed garages to the premiere international showcase for emerging filmmakers. Through it all, he said, the event has retained its “shoestring” mentality. “We are doing it the same way we did 25 years ago. Nothing has changed in terms of the programming. We don't program by commerciality, we program for opportunity and for new fresh ideas and more independence.”

The 10-day festival has evolved to reflect the challenges and opportunities of the multimedia era. Redford praised the New Frontier program, which pushes the cinematic envelope with art installations, videos and other innovative technologies.

"I see the future continuing more as a hybrid. Film will be more of a hybrid experience,” he said, invoking “Howl,” the 2010 festival's opening night presentation. “Last (year) we had a film where we blended three elements: documentary, narrative and animation.” The outlook for Sundance is strong, he said. “we can tell from ticket sales & the word on the street that it’s going to be a very big year, and be very crowded on the streets.”

Redford's vision for the future does not include handing over the reins any time soon. Looking fit at 74, he said he has no plans to step down like fellow septuagenarians Larry King and Regis Philbin.

“I have not thought about retiring,” he said. “I mean, I’m gonna die, but....” he added with a smile.

No Strings Attached Movie Review with trailer

Movie Review: No Strings Attached starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher (with trailer video)

Since I walked out of the theater showing No Strings Attached, I have strongly considered writing an open letter to the writers of these rom-coms. But I am pretty sure it won’t make much of a difference, and the truth is I am not sure if I want these terribly awful films to be changed. No Strings Attached is one of those movies that makes me whine about it being “soooo typical” and wishing for “a new twist.” But are there new twists? When it comes right down to it, we all know how this ends, and no girl (or guy) will pay to see a movie starring Ashton Kutcher where we don’t get the happy ending. So I sit here, torn. How do I really feel about No Strings Attached? I have no idea.

Emma (Natalie Portman) is funny and sad but she refuses to acknowledge her sadness. Adam (Ashton Kutcher) is freakishly happy and fairly normal. Boy meets girl, girl has sex with boy and that keeps happening for a while. I won’t spoil the ending, but if you have a brain and have ever seen a movie starring Matthew McConaughey, you know the rest of the story. The plot is not complex; it’s already played out on the big screen 1,001 times. Nothing about the story made me like No Strings Attached; it was essentially boring. That is not to say that at any point in the movie was I bored. I was not bored, I was actually very entertained and a little surprised by how dirty it got at points. The writing of individual scenes was strong. I want to shake the hand of the man or woman responsible for the banter between Emma’s roommates; this person is brilliant. There is one scene that involves a mix cd that still makes me giggle just thinking about it.

The acting was… well it was not bad, and most of the cast is recognizable. I spent half the film trying to figure out if one of the doctors was Wesley (Cary Elwes) from The Princess Bride (it is), Mindy Kaling is a sassy friend of Natalie Portman’s character and Guy Branum from Chelsea Lately portrays the even sassier friend. Ashton Kutcher is not going outside of his comfort zone, but he is believably sweet and the kind of man that women want to have fall in love with us. Natalie Portman’s quirky side, as we saw in Garden State, shines through for the first time in years and she does it well, making Emma extremely endearing.

If 27 Dresses and Knocked Up had a lovechild, it would be No Strings Attached. It’s not groundbreaking or profound but it is entertaining and cute. Also, did I mention that Wesley from the Princess Bride is in it? Bonus points for casting a legend.

Spin-off no reflection on Mosaic prospects

Explaining Cargill’s decision to offload its 64 per cent stake in his company, Jim Prokopanko, Mosaic’s president and chief executive, was at pains to stress that it did not represent a vote of no confidence in the company’s prospects.

“Cargill remains optimistic about Mosaic’s future opportunities and its ability to keep growing and delivering value for its shareholders,” he says.

Among industry executives and analysts, that view is widely shared. The long-term prospects for fertiliser companies, making it possible for the world to feed a growing population, are very healthy.

The short-term prospects, with phosphate and potash prices rising as part of the general commodity surge, look even stronger.

For Mosaic, the severing of ties with its parent company also increase the chances of a bid for the fertiliser maker, once the structures required to secure the deal’s tax-free status have expired.

Excitement over Mosaic’s prospects have already caused the shares to more than triple from their low point in November 2008, and almost to double over the past six months, to close at $85.07 on Tuesday, although they are still well down from their peak of more than $150 in June 2008 at the peak of the pre-crash commodities boom.

Mosaic is the world’s top producer of processed phosphate fertilisers, with a capacity of 10.3m tonnes a year, more than the next three producers combined.

It is also one of the three biggest producers of potash, with capacity of 10.4m tonnes a year from mines in Saskatchewan, Canada, and Michigan and New Mexico in the US.

Together with PotashCorp of Saskatchewan and Calgary-based M, it makes up the Canpotex export cartel, one of the two large exporters’ groups – the other being the Russian/Belarusian BPC – that negotiates with countries such as China, India and Brazil.

Potash prices have been highly volatile in recent years, soaring and then crashing in sync with the commodity cycle of 2006-08, but like other commodities they are now on the rise again.

Last week, China signed a deal with BPC to buy up to 600,000 tonnes of potash at $400 per tonne, 14 per cent higher over the year.

Both Canpotex and BPC are moving to six-month pricing for their sales to China, having previously struck annual deals: a sign of suppliers gaining the upper hand in a rising market.

Jeffrey Stafford, an analyst at research company Morningstar, predicted 2011 sales growth “north of 40 per cent, fuelled by price and volume gains in both phosphate and potash”.

In the longer term, he added, he expected fertiliser prices to decline slightly, as more capacity is brought into production.

Without Cargill’s holding overshadowing Mosaic, the company has more freedom either to make acquisitions or to agree to be acquired itself.

Australia’s BHP Billiton failed last year in its $39bn bid for Mosaic’s bigger rival, PotashCorp, and is still interested in a large deal. It is certain to take an interest in Mosaic’s future.

PotashCorp shares closed on Tuesday at $173,63, far above the $130 a share offered by BHP. Although BHP’s bid was eventually scuttled on political grounds, PotashCorp’s management resisted BHP’s advances by arguing that the bid failed to take adequate account of a likely, long-term surge in fertiliser demand.

X-Men First Class Reshoots Release Date

X-Men First Class To Do Reshoots, No Effect on Release Date

X-Men: First Class is coming to theaters this June, but is still shooting. AccessHollywood spoke to First Class actor Edi Gathegi, who plays the mutant Darwin in the movie and the Twilight actor revealed that the movie is in reshoots.

I guess there's some, like, reshoots that they're doing at this point, but the bulk of the movie's done and they're sticking to their release date...so it'll be a pretty fast turnaround. But I have faith in it. I have faith in all the filmmakers. I think if the script is great and the director's great and the actors are great, it's gonna be a good X-Men.

Gathegi described his character's powers as "reactive adaptation" meaning that Darwin was in a "constant state of evolution" and admitted to doing kickboxing training for the movie which he called "pretty physical" and "rigorous."

When asked if he thought the prequel was going to please fans, Gathegi did his best to cautiously dodge the question.

I really want to say a lot about it, but I don't want to give false expectations, I want to manage expectations, but I love the X-Men series, and, in many ways, this is going back to the original X-Men. And I think [First Class] is being done in a wonderful way, so I think people are going to like it.

First Class was directed by Matthew Vaughn and co-stars James McAvoy, Kevin Bacon, Michael Fassbender, Caleb Landry Jones, Nicholas Hoult, January Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, and Lucas Till. Gathegi did not reveal what the reshoots would address.

The change at the top marks the first time this season that Fairley has moved up to the first overall pick. Until he announced he was returning to school last week, Stanford QB Andrew Luck was the consensus choice for the draft’s premier spot. Now, it’s Fairley’s turn in the spotlight.

Draft Dish: Clay, Mallett could have short NFL careers

As juniors and third-year sophomores are declaring for the 2011 NFL draft this week, ahead of Saturday's deadline, some certainly should pull their names out of the draft before it's too late. Here is a look at five underclassmen who are sure to be drafted later than they think:
1. John Clay, RB, Wisconsin

We were shocked when Clay entered the draft, but after breaking down his film it became apparent that he might not be good enough to start on the '11 Wisconsin team. So, he's taking his shot at the NFL instead of perhaps becoming a college backup. Clay is a first- or second-down runner who is a liability as a receiver or pass blocker. He has value as an inside power runner in a complementary role. He lacks the speed, quickness and burst to be an NFL feature back.

Clay (6-1, 258) is most effective as a downhill runner who can make one cut and build speed through the hole. He shakes off defenders who go high but is tackled easily when defenders hit him below the waist. At times he runs with good patience and other times he seemingly runs with his eyes closed, simply slamming into the backs of blockers. He lacks elusiveness in the open field and has a history of fumbling.

Basically, he is a one-dimensional prospect with limited upside and might have to make an NFL roster as a special teams coverage player. He should stay in school and get his degree because he might not last long in the NFL. Projection: Fifth-round pick.
2. Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

Mallett (6-6, 238) is an enticing prospect because of his size and arm strength, and he has shown the ability to be an accurate passer when using good technique and footwork. However, Mallett makes way too many mental mistakes when reading defenses and thus throws way too many interceptions.

Mallett is not a premier prospect and must improve a ton to become a quality NFL starter. Another season in college would have given him the chance to improve at reading defenses and understanding passing schemes so he could make better decisions in clutch situations.

By leaving school early, he is risking his entire pro career. As in, if he goes to a team without a great QB coach and patient owner, he could well wash out of the NFL in a hurry. Projection: Second- or third-round pick.
3. Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA

Ayers has been hyped as an elite player since he arrived at UCLA but has shown only flashes of being such an NFL prospect. Ayers (6-3, 258) is a lanky straight-line player who struggles to changes directions in coverage. He does have elite speed to chase down ballcarriers in pursuit and flashes an explosive closing burst to deliver violent hits.

He was an inconsistent player in college, and he must improve his all-around game to become an NFL starter. He must have a great performance at the NFL Scouting Combine to overcome concerns about his lack of athleticism and be a high pick. Projection: Third- or fourth-round pick.
4. Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

Baldwin (6-4 3/4, 230) has rare size and arm length but is a long-strider who lacks elite speed and quickness to separate from man-to-man coverage. He tracks passes well, showing the ability to catch balls away from his body. He has good body control and balance. He has a tall, lazy stance and builds up speed slowly. He lacks any instant burst, explosiveness or acceleration in his movements.

He gets sloppy with his routes at times and seems unwilling to catch passes over the middle. He does not appear to be willing to do the little things necessary to be great. He does not come back to the ball against zone coverage or go high to catch off-target throws. He has the ability to be a dominant run blocker but rarely works hard.

Receivers without good speed usually fall on draft day. Throw in the questions about his competitiveness and toughness, and he could really slide. Plus, he has no special teams value as a return man or cover guy. Projection: Third-round pick.
5. Jurrell Casey, DT, Southern Cal

Casey is quick and athletic, and he was productive in college. However, he looks short and thick on film. He is listed at 6-2 and 282 but might not break 6-foot once officially measured at the Combine. His lack of height could help him gain leverage, but the problem is he plays upright too often and is too easily pushed around.

We like his quick hands and ability to defeat one-on-one pass blocks in the open field, but NFL defensive tackles rarely have much space to utilize athleticism advantages. Casey reminds us somewhat of Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson when he was at USC, only not as big or as strong. Projection: Third- or fourth-round pick.

This Green Hornet has no sting

This Green Hornet has no sting

Well, it might have worked. There are moments, though not exactly whole scenes, in the new Seth Rogen film The Green Hornet when we get a glimpse of how this long-gestating movie might have been a kick, a refreshing change from the ponderously self-important superhero movies of the past decade.

The high point might be the opening scene, before the stars arrive on screen. Christoph Waltz, the suave villain of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, plays Los Angeles’s meanest drug dealer and villain, facing a middle-aged crisis as well as a swaggering young upstart (a sneak cameo by a Spider-Man alumnus and one of Seth Rogen’s former co-stars). The silly but deftly turned dialogue is enough to raise hopes that a genre overdue for a smart spoofing is about to get its due.

The Green Hornet is directed by Michel Gondry, known for his playful philosophical sensibility (The Science of Sleep, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Though he was first attached to the film back in the nineties, since then it has been associated with a string of different directors, stars and concepts. To its credit, the studio didn’t go the conventional route.

Gondry’s improbable creative partner here is writer-actor Seth Rogen (Superbad, Pineapple Express), the breakout star of the Judd Apatow school of raunchy-but-amiable bromances, who serves here not only as the star, but co-writer and executive producer with his creative partner, Evan Goldberg.

Instead of magical creative synergy, what happens here feels sad. Rather than a meeting of talents, we get a stand-off, an ungainly stop-and-start compromise between action and comedy: Juvenile verbal jousting, bombastic action, more juvenile humour, typically recapping what just happened. Gondry shows little evidence of his usually distinctive visual style, falling into the slick, antic style of mediocre action movies, and the 3-D effects, added in post-production, contribute little beyond an increase in the ticket prices.

The story is based on a 1930s radio show, conceived by Lone Ranger creator George Trendle, which subsequently became a comic book, a couple of movie serials and a one-season television show that introduced Bruce Lee to Western audiences in the 1960s. The role of the Green Hornet, Britt Reid, the heir to a Los Angeles publishing fortune, has been refitted for Rogen’s hard-partying slacker persona.

When his harsh father (Tom Wilkinson) dies suddenly, Britt is, in theory, compelled to grow up and accept adult responsibility, using the paper to fight for justice in a city mired in crime and corruption. Instead, he prefers to hang out with his dad’s coffee-maker and ingenious mechanic, Kato (Taiwanese pop star and actor Jay Chou) in his old man’s tricked-out black Chrysler Imperial. Along the way, they can pose as bad guys in order to infiltrate the world of real bad guys and enjoy a secret fantasy life as masked vigilantes.

There’s the germ of a good idea here, as Rogen and Goldberg’s script chooses not to ignore the childish wish-fulfilment aspect of superhero stories. But instead of exploring arrested development, it celebrates it. The one-note joke here is that there’s a major discrepancy between the would-be superhero, the ungainly Rogen as the Green Hornet, and his far more capable and cooler sidekick. It gets repeated endlessly.

Kato, who knows martial arts and has special vision that slows down the action (the brief effective use of 3-D), is clearly the genius, while Britt is the self-deluded front man. As a co-star, Chou is sleekly handsome, and enough of a pop star to help sell the movie in Asia, but his English is sometimes hard to understand. Rogen, who, while slimmed down, sticks to his familiar role as the wisecracking observer.

We wait, and wait, for this relationship to evolve. Instead, we have too much dull banter about the proper roles of heroes and sidekicks, and mocking the latently homo-erotic relationship between the two (“No tights,” they agree.). By the time The Green Hornet collapses into a mess of hackneyed car chases and flying glass and bullets, it feels less like the promised irreverent take on the superhero genre, and more like the latest iteration of the Rush Hour movies.

Iphone 4 explodes

Iphone 4 explodes, but it was freezing outside so no guarantee

Maybe it is the cold weather we have experienced the last winters that has gotten the legal department at Apple working. Or maybe Apple’s trend sensitivity also streaches to weather predictions, and they knew winters were going to get rough years ago. In any case, the fine print for the Iphone 4 states that any warranties or guarantees are invalid if the phone is used in freezing temperatures!

As the Swedish blog ‘Feber’ reports, a Norwegian woman used her Iphone 4 in her car, playing music in the typically cold Scandinavian weather. Suddenly the phone exploded.

But when she returned the phone to the store, it turned out that Apple’s guarantee doesn’t cover use of an Iphone 4 in freezing temperatures. The story isn’t at its end, but luckily the consumer protection laws in Norway and also Sweden overrides Apple’s contract and the guarantee will be valid if the phone has been used under normal conditions. Freezing temperatures is a normal condition in winter, and here we are talking about nothing outrageous, just around 15 Fahrenheit or -10 Celsius.

What whole lot of bad talk about Iphone could have been saved if the store had just given her a new phone. Someone needs to go to business school.

No Love Lyrics

Eminem: No Love Lyrics

Eminem: No Love Lyrics
Young Money, yeah

Throw dirt on me and grow a wildflower
But it's fuck the world, get a child out her
Yeah, my life a bitch, but you know nothing 'bout her
Been to hell and back, I can show you vouchers

I'm rolling Sweets, I'm smoking sour
Married to the game but she broke her vows
That's why my bars are full of broken bottles
And my night stands are full of open bibles

I think about more than I forget
But I don't go around fire expecting not to sweat
And these niqqas know I lay 'em down, make you beg
Bitches, try to kick me while I'm down, I'll break your leg

Money outweighing problems on the triple beam
I'm sticking to the script, you niqqas skipping scenes
Be good or be good at it
Fucking right, I got my gun, semi-Cartermatic

Yeah, put a dick in their mouth, so I guess it's fuck what they say
I'm high as a bitch, up, up and away, man, I come down in a couple of days
Ok, you want me up in the cage then I'll come out in beast-mode
I got this world stuck in the safe, combination is the G-code

It's Weezy motherfucker, Blood Gang and I'm in bleed mode
All about my dough, but I don't even check the peephole
So you can keep knocking but won't knock me down
No love lost, no love found

It's a little too late to say that you're sorry now
You kicked me when I was down, fuck what you say, just
Don't hurt me, it don't hurt me, no more
Bitch, you get no love

You showed me nothing but hate, you ran me into the ground
But what comes around goes around
And you don't hurt me
You don't hurt me, no more

Bitch, you get no love, no love, no love, no love
Bitch, you get no love, no love, no love
And I don't need you no more
Get 'em

I'm alive again, more alive than I have been in my whole entire life
I can see these people's ears perk up as I begin
To spaz with the pen, I'm a little bit sicker than most, shit's fixin' to get thick again
They say the competition is stiff, but I get a hard dick from this shit, now I stick it in

I ain't never giving in again, caution to the wind, complete freedom
Look at these rappers, how I treat them, so why the fuck would I join them when I beat them?
They call me a freak 'cause I like to spit on these pussies 'fore I eat them
Man, get these whack cocksuckers off stage, where the fuck is Kanye when you need him?

Snatch the mic from 'em, bitch, I'mma let you finish in a minute, yeah, the rap was tight
But I'm 'bout to spit the greatest verse of all time so you might want to go back to the lab tonight and, um
Scribble out them rhymes you were going to spit and start over from scratch and write new ones
But I'm afraid that it ain't gonna make no difference when I rip this stage and tear it in half tonight

It's an adrenaline rush to feel the bass thump in the place all the way to the parking lot, fellow
Set fire to the mic and ignite the crowd, you can see the sparks from hot metal
Cold-hearted from the day I Bogarted the game, I self-started a Roc fellow
When I'm not even in my harshest, you can still get roasted 'cause Marsh is not mellow

'Til I'm toppling from the top I'm not going to stop, I'm staying on my Monopoly board
That means I'm on top of my game and it don't stop, 'til my hip don't hop anymore
When you so good that you can't say it, 'cause it ain't even cool for you to sound cocky anymore
People just get sick 'cause you spit, these fools can't drool or dribble a drop anymore

And you can never break my stride, you never slow the momentum at any moment I'm about to blow
You'll never take my pride, killing the flow, slow venom and the opponent
Is getting no mercy, mark my words ain't letting up, relentless, I smell blood
I don't give a fuck, keep giving them hell, where was you when I fell and needed help up?
You get no love

It's a little too late to say that you're sorry now
You kicked me when I was down, fuck what you say, just
Don't hurt me, it don't hurt me, no more
Bitch, you get no love

You showed me nothing but hate, you ran me into the ground
But what comes around goes around
And you don't hurt me
You don't hurt me, no more

Bitch, you get no love, no love, no love, no love
Bitch, you get no love, no love, no love
And I don't need you no more
Bitch, you get no love

No Pants New York City Subway Ride 2011

No Pants New York City Subway Ride 2011 (VIDEOS)

Do you ever have the sudden urge (whether because of the oppressive heat or for other reasons..) to take your pants off on the New York City subway?

This Sunday is your chance to do so (without possibly committing a crime) with the No Pants Subway Ride sponsored by Improv Everywhere. There are only two requirements in order to participate:

1. Be willing to take your pants off while riding the subway.
2. Be able to keep a straight face while riding sans pants.

There are six meeting points around the city in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. All you need is your normal winter clothes, a backpack or bag, a metrocard and an open mind.

At 3pm, everyone gathered at the meeting points will be divided into groups for different train cars. Once you are on the train, proceed to take your pants off as if that was a perfectly normal activity. If you are asked by non-participants why you are not wearing pants, Improve Everywhere suggests you tell people that either you "forgot to wear pants" or "they were getting uncomfortable." Eventually, the groups will all converge in Union Square. For more instructions, be sure to check out the website.

And if you happen to notice a little more leg on the subway this Sunday, now you'll know why!

no one killed jessica review

To reconstruct on celluloid a true occurrence that is oven fresh in public reminiscence is not a trouble-free mission, but Gupta takes up this colossal challenge of placing together the controversial and litigious story of Jessica Lal's murder case on celluloid. However, having sensitive and explosive material on hand is not enough. The execution of the subject is of paramount importance. Fortunately, the one-film-old director interprets the events of the murder case in remarkable style and form and makes it a cinematic experience that haunts you even after the film has concluded. Gupta does complete justice to the spirit of the story, which had created headlines and still remains well etched in our memory to this day.

A few monsoons ago, Rajkumar Santoshi's Halla Bol commenced with a shootout sequence at a party. Of course, Halla Bol wasn't about this incident alone, it was just a tiny segment in the narrative. No One Killed Jessica focuses on this true-life incident [with no deviations] and its strength lies in the fact that it sucks you into the world of dirty politics and power games as soon as it unfolds.

No One Killed Jessica is not Gupta's first and foremost endeavor at illustrating a real incident that shook the nation. Even in his directorial debut Aamir, Gupta depicted a common man's [Rajeev Khandelwal] hard try at combating terrorism and violence. However, that was a work of fiction. But No One Killed Jessica is a different ballgame altogether because reams of paper and hours of television footage have been devoted to this case. Thankfully, Gupta makes it an engaging thriller rather than relying on the docu-drama format.

No One Killed Jessica belongs to the unique hard-hitting, gut-wrenching genre of cinema. Script-wise, the director has tried to remain faithful to the episode that occurred during that fateful night and also what transpired subsequently, but besides depicting reality on celluloid, he adds the thrill element to the plotline, which makes it very viewer-friendly. The events have been chronologically put forth and the daring story of two women who challenged the system hits you like a ton of bricks. The film truly celebrates the human spirit and also reflects a vital change in the society and in the attitudes of people.

Final word? This gutsy film deserves a standing ovation!

New Delhi, 1999. The guns at Kargil are still blazing when another one goes off, this time in the nation's capital. Jessica [Myra], a young attractive model, trying her hand at bartending, is shot dead at a celebrity party. Her crime - refusing to serve a drink after closing hours. The culprit Manish [Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub], son of a prominent politician, inebriated by a deadly cocktail of alcohol and a sense of entitlement, pulls the trigger in a fit of rage.

With 300 of Delhi's swish set present at the party, many of whom are witnesses to the murder, Manish looks all set to go to the gallows. Except that it doesn't quite turn out that way. But two women, Jessica's sister Sabrina [Vidya Balan] and the feisty TV reporter Meera [Rani Mukherjee], decide to outwit Manish and his politician-father [Shireesh Sharma] at their game. Over the course of seven years, the case goes through several stages of legal complications. Witnesses turn hostile one after another and the few who don't, became inconsistent with their versions.

Manish is acquitted, leading to a fierce public uproar and a relentless campaign by the media, which eventually leads to a life sentence for Manish.

A film like No One Killed Jessica pricks your conscience and makes you think. In fact, it's the kind of film that will lead to debates and discussions. What was more appalling - the model's slaying or the slapdash method in which the suspected assassins were brought to justice? What's even more scandalous is that almost immediately after the killing, the police identified the slaughterer and it seemed like an open-and-shut case. But it wasn't.

Gupta deserves kudos for choosing a thorny and contentious story to interpret on celluloid, but he deserves a few extra brownie points for handling the material with aplomb. His prowess and competence is visible all through the film, but more specifically in the electrifying courtroom sequences and also when Rani decides to take up this issue. The candle light protest at India Gate in particular is simply overwhelming.

Since it is based on a real story that occurred in Delhi, Gupta has shot the entire film in the city. The characters are real and so are the locations and that's what makes the goings-on very identifiable, besides bestowing an authentic feel to the film. Like his earlier film AAMIR, No One Killed Jessica has been shot in guerrilla style and that makes the viewer feel that he's actually watching the drama unfold in front of his eyes, that he's a spectator in the proceedings. Gupta also ensures that the two pivotal parts remain true to their respective characters.

Any shortcoming? Yes, if Gupta would've trimmed the film by at least 10 minutes, the impact would've been much stronger.

A hard-hitting drama, generally, doesn't have scope for music. But Amit Trivedi joins hands with Amitabh Bhattacharya, the wordsmith with whom he delivered the fabulous soundtrack of Dev D, and together they deliver a solid soundtrack. 'Dilli Dilli' has already won hearts of audiences and the remaining songs too leave an impact. Anay Goswami's cinematography is first-rate. Dialogue, also penned by Gupta, are realistic to the core.

Gupta may be young and relatively new to the fray, but that does not deter him from getting the best and most appropriate cast for his second outing and I am sure, it's only thanks to a potent and persuasive script. Vidya has been basking in the glory of films like Paa and Ishqiya lately, which gave her ample opportunity to prove her dexterity. She gets a wonderful opportunity to prove her prowess yet again. Vidya plays the iconic Sabrina Lall brilliantly, reliving some very stressful and arduous chapters of Sabrina's life. Balan is poignant yet controlled and projects an imposing figure of maturity, refinement and veracity. This film completes a hat-trick of her commendable performances.

In the role of a spirited and audacious journo, Rani, who smokes non-stop, flings swear words every now and then and who rebuffs being a voiceless spectator when the culprits go scot-free, is simply exceptional. She sinks her teeth into the character, giving it the much required pragmatism that it necessitates. Her performance is bound to be talked-about in days to come. In fact, it would be unfair if I do not acknowledge the fact that she appears very much at ease mouthing abusive words and lurid language.

Neil Bhoopalam, the key witness, is fantastic. Especially in the sequence when he comes for an audition of a film role and blurts out the truth unsuspectingly. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub, the main accused, is very good. Myra, as Jessica, is natural. Rajesh Sharma, the investigating police officer, is excellent. Satyadeep Misra, as Rani's boss, gives a fine account of himself. Shireesh Sharma, the politician-father, is perfect.

On the whole, No One Killed Jessica is a poignant story of two women's resolve for justice. It's a remarkable blend of facts and fiction inspired by a series of real-life episodes, which has thankfully not been presented as a tedious biography or in a mind-numbing docu-drama format. It's more of an engaging thriller which has the right doses of histrionics, tautness, anguish and thrills. The emotional and disturbing journey, the strength of the common man and the relentless endeavor of the media have all been most compellingly put together on moving picture. In times of yore, a lot of films have been attempted on real-life incidents, but haven't struck a chord so effectively. No One Killed Jessica should shatter this jinx. This heroic and daring film truly deserves a prolonged applause.
