California Earthquake Shakes Monterey and San Benito Counties
California Earthquake: a 4.5-magnitude earthquake hit Monterey and San Benito counties early Wednesday, but no damage was immediately reported.According to dispatchers at the Monterey County and San Benito County sheriff’s departments, there have been no reports of damage, and the shaking was not strong enough to toss books from shelves. The quake was recorded at 12:51 a.m., and was followed by a 3.4 aftershock at 1 a.m. as well as several smaller aftershocks.
The earthquake was centered 6 miles southeast of San Juan Bautista and 45 miles southeast of San Jose, and came five days after a 4.1-magnitude temblor shook the San Jose area.
