Belichick Benches Wes Welker for Foot Jokes

Moments before this afternoon’s Divisional Round game, he showed how seriously he meant it.
CBS Sports’ Jim Nance announced that wide receiver Wes Welker will be benched for the start of the game for his actions during a press conference on Thursday. Welker subtly worked the word “foot” in a number of his answers to media members, an apparent slight at the foot fetish controversy involving Rex Ryan and his wife Michelle.
Welker did take the field with the special teams unit during the Jets first punt of the game, but was quickly relieved by Julian Edelman on the offense’s first series.
The 29-year-old finished the regular season as the team leader in receptions (86), yards (848), and YAC (411).
