BROOKE WHITE’S “CHANGE OF PLANS” FROM HER “AMERICAN IDOL” JOURNEY
It’s been a fulfilling road from American Idol season seven to now for Brooke White. And today the singer/songwriter has stepped out of her comfort zone to accept the starring role in the family film Change of Plans (8:00 p.m. ET/PT, FOX). White portrays schoolteacher Sally Danville, whose best friend has died in a tragic accident while serving in the Peace Corp. Danville discovers she’s been made guardian to the woman’s four children, three of which have come from third world countries. Danville and her husband Jason (Joe Flanigan) have to learn to parent their new family, while helping the kids navigate through the cultural differences in America. White knows her acting is a direction that may surprise some, but for her, it was a normal progression. “It felt very natural to do this,” she relates. “I got to tell you when I first got the news I got the part I had my first meeting with the directed and I nearly hyperventilated. I just didn’t know what to expect. But the, it was fun. It was long, it was a lot of work, but the long days didn’t see long because I enjoyed it so much.” That very first scene was unnerving for sure. Because kids can only be on set a limited amount of time, White had to act opposite a tree once the young actress was done shooting for the day. However, once the American Idol finalist complete her portion, she could breathe again, thanks to the director John Kent Harrison, she tells Hollywood Outbreak.com. It was kind of scary,” White recalls. “When I finished my first scene the director said to the crew standing around, ‘Hey everybody, that was Brooke’s first scene and everybody clapped.” Still, don’t expect White to jump into acting full time…after all, music is her first love. “Music is such a big part of who I am,” she points out. “I’m working on an album right now. I’ve written about 20 songs going back and forth between L.A. and Nashville. I’m not giving up music by any means. I’m just adding acting to the resume, I suppose.” Fans, rest assured, White does plenty of singing in Change of Plans.

Brooke White, a sweet singer songwriter type from season seven, is showing up in an unexpected place Saturday: co-starring in a movie. The film, co-sponsored by Wal-Mart and Procter & Gamble, is part of a family-friendly slate of films Fox has been running Saturday nights.
Dubbed “Change of Plans,” Brooke plays a care-free, married, childless singer songwriter, much like herself, who finds herself with four kids, three adoptees, bestowed upon her by her dead best friend.
She gets to sing three songs and even meet Randy Jackson in a cameo. Jackson also helped put the soundtrack together.
Like her character in the film getting kids with no warning, Brooke landed this role “out of left field,” she told me during a press conference with national media. She wasn’t even sure she wanted to act. “After I found out I got the part,” she said, “I was shipped off to Toronto within two days. There was little time to think or prepare. That was probably in my best interests because I was afraid.”
She was worried she’d have trouble remembering the lines. “I’m known for forgetting lyrics,” she said, alluding to the time she struggled with a song during “Idol” and had to start over again. In the end, she said, she grew into the role and worked it out. “It’s such an endearing, sweet film. It’s all about the little moments between the characters which defines the story.”
She knows her career has not taken off like a rocket ship but she hopes to “steadily and slowly build a career that lasts.”
Since Randy was on the phone, most questions were directed at him and the new season. Randy, as in press conferences in past years, had a knack for saying not much of anything. His blather is amazingly bland or nonsensical. For instance, he said: “What you see is all sides of me [this year.] Before, people saw only one side… Maybe a little more hair on the dawg. You will see me take a more assertive role. I’m the young veteran on the show.”
As for the changes, “it’s still the show that you love. It isn’t being changed that much.”
And the other two judges? Steve Tyler is “very funny.” Jennifer Lopez “has been very loving.”
I didn’t get an advance look at the film but here’s an extended trailer. The movie also features Phylicia Rashad (”The Cosby Show”) as a social worker and Joe Flanigan as her husband.
