January 23, 2011: Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field
Chicago Bears 2011 Playoffs
Chicago Bears TicketsThe Chicago Bears are headed to the NFC Conference Championship. This alone is surprising. The bigger shocker is that the Bears are playing this January 23, 2011 game at home. What is the biggest bombshell? The Bears are playing the Green Bay Packers. Now everyone in Chicago with disposable income or a kid's college fund to pilfer is looking for Bears tickets to Soldier Field for the game this Sunday at 2:00 central time.
While no one expected the Bears to enter the 2011 NFL playoffs as the number two seed on the NFC side, no one could be caught off guard by the 35-10 lead the Bears held over the Seahawks entering the fourth quarter of the Divisional Round game. Sadly, few could be truly shocked the Seahawks bounced back late in the fourth to make the final score more respectable. The Bears won 35-24, and now must plan for the third matchup of the season with the Packers.
The Green Bay Packers dismantled the Atlanta Falcons 48-21 at the Georgia Dome. This win follows a 21-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round. Basically, the Packers enter the game the hottest team in the NFL with the hottest quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, in the league.
This is not a bad thing for the Chicago Bears. We Bears fans know our team tends to fall short when we are expected to do anything but lay down. Vegas and football insiders across the blog-o-sphere expect Chicago to do just that. Sure the Bears lost the last game of the season to the Packers and let the Seahawks crawl back into the game. But in both instances, Chicago already had done what they needed to advance.
The Bears were taking the number two seed with a win or a loss in Week 17. Sure the starters played, but their play could hardly be called inspiring. The Bears had the Divisional Rounds game won by midway through the fourth quarter. The Seahawks simply saved face scoring the last 14 points.
Chicago enters the NFC Championship game with Jay Cutler at the helm. He won in his first career postseason appearance. While his numbers (15/28 274 yards, 2 TD, 111.3 QB Rating, 2 Rushing Touchdowns) do not quite compare with Aaron Rodgers, he proved to be very effective with few errors. He is going to make a bad throw or two against the Packers Sunday, but he is also going to make an improbable pass or two. Now, if Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, and Greg Olsen run their routes to completion they may even torch the Packers secondary.
Bears running back Matt Forte will need to churn out some yards and, more importantly, first downs for Chicago to keep the potentially dangerous Packers offense on the sidelines.
When that Green Bay offense takes the field, Chicago needs defensive end Julius Peppers to stalk QB Aaron Rodgers and diffuse his Houdini act avoiding the pass rush. Rodgers is perhaps the best quarterback in the 2011 postseason. He is making plays with his feet and through the air. Chicago needs to get to him with a four-man pass rush and the corners need to put together another phenomenal performance to hamstring this offense.
Chicago does not need to worry about the Packers running game. Packers running back Jason Starks dominated in the Wild Card Round, running for 123 yards against the Eagles, but he failed to impress in the Divisional Round, running for just 66 yards on 25 carries, The Bears have one of the best run defenses in the league and should be able to stuff him at the line.
Get amazing Bears tickets for the January 23, 2011 NFC Championship game at Soldier Field and enjoy just the second postseason meeting between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, the oldest rivalry in the NFL.
