Davis Bacon Act Favorite Recipes

The Davis Bacon Act may be costing the government a fair amount of bacon. It is one of the acts on the table to be cut to help reduce federal spending. The Spending Reduction Act of 2011 proposed by conservatives is an act that will cut 2.5 trillion dollars. The Davis Bacon Act is one of many things to be cut to help the government to stop spending so much money. It is an act that established fair pay on public work projects. According to Wikipedia, it makes sure “all federal government construction contracts, and most contracts for federally assisted construction over $2,000, must include provisions for paying workers on-site no less than the locally prevailing wages and benefits paid on similar projects.” Ever since the Davis Bacon act was passed, it has been controversial. When it was passed back in the thirties, it was a way to keep African Americans that were cheap labor from coming to the north from the south and compete with more expensive northerner labor. It has been suspended numerous times, such as Hurricane Andrew and Katrina so that those areas could get some cheaper labor in to help rebuild. However, it was quickly reinstated afterward the majority of public construction projects were completed. Nowadays, it has controversy for even more reasons, and I have to wonder myself it isn’t still instated to keep Mexican or Mexican-American workers from competing with Americans. Who knows, maybe this law helps keep illegals from working for the government, that would really be scandalous wouldn’t it?

This bill sure is dramatic and stressful to me, and I think it’s time for dinner and to have some real bacon!
