Dennis Byrd Inspires Jets
Dennis Byrd inspired the New York Jets by addressing the team Saturday night at the Jets’ hotel before their playoff game against the New England Patriots, delivering what Braylon Edwards called “the most inspirational message of my life.”Byrd's career ended in 1992 when he collided with teammate Scott Mersereau against Kansas City, leaving him temporarily paralyzed. He broke the C-5 vertebra in his neck, but can now walk again.
Coach Rex Ryan is usually the one who addresses the team before games, but this time he stepped aside and gave Byrd the floor.
"As God is my witness, I have never been more ready to perform in my life," Edwards tweeted. "Dennis Byrd, I respect, salute and honor you."
