Jay Cutler: Cutler's Public Image May Become A Concern For Chicago Bears
Jay Cutler, the Chicago Bears quarterback, has been widely criticized by media for his unfriendly behavior with fans and members of the media throughout his career.
According to Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun Times: "The Bears really need to get Jay Cutler some professional help with his social skills so he can present a better public image when talking to the media.
"Not for our sake. For his."
There seems to be a relationship between brash quarterbacks that alienate themselves from the media and press-friendly quarterbacks that win the affection of reporters and fans. Guys such as Manning, Brees and Brady, all successful quarterbacks, are all very good on camera. While quarterbacks that get on our nerves never really go far in the league, think Ryan Leaf and Jeff George.
"How many quarterbacks as awkward as Cutler in public forums have won the Super Bowl? How many quarterbacks as overtly disdainful — purposely or inadvertently — of the media process that molds much of his public image as Cutler have sustained success in the NFL?" wrote the Sun-Times.
It's not too late for Cutler to turn things around. He's a professional and if he plans on staying around in the league for a while, part of his job entails talking to the press and making himself available to fans.
If he refuses to conform, that may be it for his career and the Bears' hopes of winning a Super Bowl may have to be put on hold again.
