Things are looking up for Jim Thorpe as the golfer got out of prison and gets ready to rejoin the golfing community on the Champions Tour. One week ago the Champions Tour lifer the suspension it had slapped on Thorpe and now that he’s out of the slammer, the entertaining golf personality can get back to earning a living.
Mike Stevens, president of the Champions Tour, noted, “Thorpie has always been a great personality – great with fans and pro-am partners and sponsors. I’m sure he’ll be equally as good when he comes back. We’ll welcome him back with open arms.”
His early release from jail is contingent on Thorpe paying $2 million in back taxes to the IRS. The 61-year old pro golfer will continue to serve his sentence at a half-way house then at home. this will not stop him from being able to work and he fully intends to pick up his clubs and get back on the greens.
