Mean Girls was a one-of-a-kind movie that happened at just the right time with just the right cast. With the brilliant writing of Tina Fey with the talent of young stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls captured the spirit of high school clicks perfectly. Tonight ABC Family is debuting the straight-to-cable sequel Mean Girls 2 which brings the plastics into a new decade. It begs the question of whether we really need a sequel to the perfect teenage click movie?
To be entirely honest, Mean Girls itself was a bit of a sequel. It followed in the footsteps of Heathers and Pretty In Pink in capturing the social hierarchy of teenage angst. It’s one of those movies that was better left alone. Mean Girls 2 only serves to cheapen the message of the original that taught the world that everyone has a bit of a Mean Girl in their heart. It is what we do with power within ourselves to follow our own paths.
