Shane Black to write his own 'Death Note'
Shane Black will direct the film adaptation of the Japanese manga series "Death Note" for Warner Bros.According to Variety, Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Brian Witten are producing.
Charley and Vlas Parlapanides wrote the original draft of the script. Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry will do a rewrite.
The film centers on a college student that accidentally finds a misplaced death note that gives him the ability to kill anyone simply by writing their name and mentally picturing the person.
Warner Bros. Pictures Japan produced three Japanese-language "Death Note" films from 2006 to 2008.
Black was one of Hollywood's highest-paid writers in the late '80s and early '90s, when he wrote "Lethal Weapon," "The Last Boy Scout," "Last Action Hero," and "The Long Kiss Goodnight."
He made his directing debut in 2005 with the action comedy "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which starred Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.
