Fire in gym forces evacuation of apartments
Residents of six apartments in Lincoln were evacuated early Monday morning when a fire broke out in a gym on the first floor.
The Manville Fire Department received a call of a fire shortly after 1 a.m. at 2-6 Main St, said Capt. Eric Rousseau. The building has six apartments on the second floor, he said, and Four Corners Gym and Manville Market on the first floor.
“The fire was inside the wall,” Rousseau said. “We had to open the wall up to get at it. We stopped it before it got to the second floor.”
And all the residents, except one, who lived in the apartment directly above the gym, were allowed to return to their homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
