Tramon Williams: Packers Cornerback Strikes Again, Intercepts Matt Ryan
Two big interceptions by Tramon Williams and an outstanding first half from Aaron Rodgers have the Green Bay Packers leading the Atlanta Falcons 28-14 at halftime.Williams picked off one Matt Ryan pass in the end zone, thwarting a Falcons drive. And on the last play of the second half he picked off another Ryan pass and took it back 70 yards for a touchdown.
But while Williams has been huge for Green Bay, he hasn’t even been the Packers’ best player. That distinction would go to Rodgers, who has completed 18 of 21 passes for 234 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Packers haven’t had a running game (James Starks is leading the way with 14 yards on nine carries) but it hasn’t mattered as long as Rodgers is running the show.
The Falcons got a 12-yard touchdown run from Michael Turner in the first quarter and a 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Eric Weems in the second. But unless the Falcons’ defense can slow Rodgers down, and Ryan can stop putting the ball in Williams’ hands, the Packers are on their way to the NFC Championship Game.
