This week saw many fashion highs and lows, from the start of New York Fashion Week to the style-deprived purple carpet at Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" movie premiere in L.A. Amidst the abundance of looks to choose from, two gorgeous young ladies stood out for sporting two purple dresses that yielded two very different results. Keep reading to find out which starlet ruled the Scene and which songstress should have left her "California Gurl"s at home.

Our Style Superstar is a no-brainer: Selena Gomez. She was definitely the highlight of rumored BF Justin Bieber’s "Never Say Never" premiere on Wednesday. Selena’s jewel-tone Reem Acra satin dress was knee-length on the runway, but this shorter version paired with nude heels gives her enviably long legs. Splashes of sparkle on her shoes, belt and jewelry keep the ensemble young, fresh and festive. Plus, is that a glowing tan we see? In her transition from small-screen queen to movie star, Selena proves she has the style savvy to rule a red carpet.

South of the border, Katy Perry picked a Georges Hobeika dress for the Mexico City launch of her Purr by Katy Perry fragrance last weekend. All the things that make Selena’s look a winner, however, are lacking in Katy’s ensemble. Most noticeably, of course, is our clear view of Katy’s twins. Babe, we know you’re well-endowed, but that doesn’t mean we want to see ’em on display all the time! A curvy gal like you should avoid a dress that lacks boob support…and coverage. Katy’s next faux pas has to be those clunky, boring black peep-toes. If you’re going to rock an avant-garde gown, you have to pick more exciting, flattering footwear to match! Finally, we love that Katy embraces her naturally pale skin tone, but jewel-tone colors, like this rich purple, look best against tan or dark skin. Katy looks like a completely washed-out version of her usually radiant self.

One key ingredient both ladies mastered? Flawless hair and makeup. Selena and Katy were expertly styled in casually flowing locks, soft pink lips, sculpted brows and luscious black lashes.

In our sartorial dream world, we would have loved to see Selena rocking Katy’s sexy, envelope-pushing dress and Katy wearing Selena’s chic and sophisticated frock. Perhaps that switcheroo would have made them both Style Superstars this week.
